Today is the day that iPhone OS 3.0 will be previewed by Apple. From what we know so far, it seems as though copy and paste will be in the headlines according to the rumors. While everybody is talking about the possibilities of iPhone OS 3.0 having this and that, what will happen to people with jailbroken 2G and 3G iPhones?
How iPhone OS 3.0 Will Affect your Jailbroken iPhone
If you’re new to the jailbreaking scene, you might be asking “what does jailbreaking do?” Well, essentially it will allow you to have access to Cydia and Installer, two sources for 3rd party applications. These applications are such programs for the iPhone that Apple has not approved, but will give you more access to your iPhone.
Here’s what you need to know: if you want to KEEP your “jailbreak” for your iPhone 2G and 3G, as always, do not update to 3.0 when it is released later this spring/summer. Wait for news to come from the iPhone Dev Team.
If your iPhone 2G is unlocked and iPhone 3G is unlocked (via yellowsn0w), your phone will most likely be “locked” if you update mistakenly to 3.0 firmware. Have you figured out the pattern yet? Don’t update anything if you absolutely NEED a jailbroken/unlocked iPhone!
The iPhone OS 3.0 preview is coming in 9.5 hours. Expect a post-announcement wrap up to come your way!

i agree i love my jailbroken phone and im gonna keep it that way and wait for the release of the jailbroken 3.0… i just updated my phone to 2.2.1 i was on 2.2 but i didn’t wanna take an hour to redo it all to upgrade.

Yes its jailbroken using Quickpwn 2.2.5-2. To unlock, ur iPhone 3G baseband must be below 02.11.07

READ: yellowsn0w DOES NOT WORK WITH 2.2.1 (02.30.03) directly – you need to be running a ‘pwned’ version of 2.2.1 which didn’t upgrade the baseband during the restore/upgrade.

2.2.1 has been jailbroken, but if you want to be able to unlock it you must JB with pwnage tool and not quickpwn.
Which kinda messes up us Windows users cause appartently the pwnage tool that will do this is currently only available for Macs.
I always wait for everyone else to test and leave feedback before upgrading 😉

Yeah, I’m going to wait for the fine work of the DevTeam before I do anything. Even with version 3.0, there will still be things I can do with a jailbroken phone that I would be able to do with a non-JB version.
Yeah, I’m on a 1st gen iPhone, on Rogers, so I gotta stick with the unlock. I’ll be keeping a close eye on the Dev Team’s blog!
