How To iPhone Optimize Your Blog with WPtouch

The iPhone currently offers the best web surfing on any cellphone out there at the moment, hands down. Every time I get a chance to try out other mobile browsers (EG Blackberry Storm, Nokia N95, etc), I realize how lucky I am to have mobile Safari. The other browsers were extremely hard to use and didn’t even come close. Back to the drawing board, fellas!

1. Backup your blog.
2. Download WPtouch (recently updated to 1.8.4) and upload it to your Plugins directory via FTP.
3. Activate WPtouch within Wordpress. Customize the settings to your liking.
4. Done. Pat yourself on the back for not doing this earlier.

Okay, so the instructions above were VERY brief, but if you’ve installed a plugin for Wordpress before this should be dead easy. The WPtouch website has some pretty detailed instructions so check it out if you need more help.

WPtouch allows you to upload custom icons and even has a link at the bottom of the page to allow users to view the original theme. You can add support for search, categories, you can preview blog snippets, and just in general it makes your blog a dream for iPhone/iPod Touch/Android users to read.

Yes, I know I should’ve installed this plugin wayyy back. Some of you are probably thinking “welcome to last year, GARY!” I know, I know. I had something called a “To Do List” and WPtouch was on it and I finally got around to it. Thanks to everyone who has emailed me in the past about WPtouch!
