On the eve of the release of the iPhone 3GS, it has come to our attention that select Rogers Wireless dealers will be offering warranties for new purchases of the iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS. If you recall last year, there was no additional warranty for the iPhone 3G outside of the 1 year manufacturers warranty.
There are two different types of warranties. Each warranty will match the contract length that you choose. For example, if you have a 3 year contract, then the warranty is good for 3 years. Please note that these warranties have nothing to do with Apple Inc.
Remember, your iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS still has its 1 year manufacturer warranty through Apple and Rogers from the date of purchase, but these new warranties are offered to extend that coverage and will only be available at the time of purchase.

The second warranty option is for liquid/physical damage to the iPhone 3G/3GS and can only be purchased in conjunction with the first warranty. In other words, you cannot buy just the Liquid/Physical damage warranty alone.

Personally, I am not a fan of warranties. I have never purchased one for electronics and never will. I am very careful with my tech, so warranties are useless to me.

Intriguing concept but the price is way too high. Tough to launch this type of extra service when:
a) Rogers seems to be reluctant to extend the best possible price to ALL their customers, current & future
b) tough economic times for all
I am with you on this. I am not going to spend $ on an extended warranty. If my 3G goes kaput then I will have a great excuse of getting a 3GS 😉
The Wireless Wave in Costco has a 3-year for $50. And if you don’t use it, you get a $50 costco cash card at the end of the 3 years. Seems like a good enough deal to me.
I determined years ago that I’m better off not getting extended warranties. The amount I would have spent buying them has significantly exceeded what I’ve spent to replace the occasional stuff that would have been covered by them. Of course, I always have enough liquidity to absorb the cost if necessary.
Hmmmm I don’t want to spend no more money with Rogers and I never buy extra warranty as I usually take on the project myself and fix it. Now for the iPhone 3GS….. Makes me think if its worth it for 3 years or no? Comments plz 😛
Well we all know that they have to make money on the warranties. My theory based on personal experience with pretty much every electronic I’ve ever owned, if it’s going to break it will break in the first month. This is mostly computer parts/mp3 players/phones thus far.
Apple will be offering AppleCare for the iPhone in the US, so I imagine that will be available in Canada as well. Even though AppleCare only extends your warranty to 2 years, it’s much better to deal with Apple than it is Rogers.
I do like the extended warranty for liquid/physical damage. $30 for a year’s protection from
liquid or physical damage is a pretty good deal.
Ill stick with the futureshop warranty… unlimited over counter exchanges, doesnt cover physical damage though.
yeap, the FS warranty is great! I have it, and I’m going to be exchanging my 8GB for the new 3GS and just paying the difference, and not extending my contract what-so-ever!

You will still have Apple’s 1 year. Roger’s warranty must be purchased through them, but don’t get it. The FS one is all you need!

When Rogers replaces the iPhone, do they give you a new phone, or is it refurbished? Do you have an option at all?
Keep in mind that some credit cards automatically extend manufacture warranties by one-year if charged on their card. I had double-checked by calling my Visa cards before buying the 3GS to see that cell phone/electronics were eligable.
