App Review: QuickReply for SMS

Hey, RoryPiper here again. Just a quick post this week. I thought I take another stab at doing an app review.

If you do a lot of texting, with your iPhone, you know how annoying it is to get interrupted in the middle of a game, or while you’re surfing in Safari, or while you’re doing anything on your iPhone, really. If this sounds familiar, you need to check out this paid app, from Cydia, called “QuickReply for SMS”. It allows you to reply to your SMS messages from within any app, without having to close the app you’re working/playing with. The UI is very nice, mimicking the native Message app, built into the OS.

When you receive a meassage, you get the regular pop up, but with an extra option. You can now choose between “Close”, “View”, or “Reply”. If you choose the new option, “Reply”, a keyboard and message bubble pop up, right over your current application.

You even have the option to use this on your lock screen. You just double tap the pop up.

“QuickReply for SMS” comes from Gaurav Khanna, and is available under the BigBoss & Planet iPhones repo, in Cydia, for $2.99. It is well worth the money, if you do a lot of texting, and don’t like having your other tasks and games interrupted. As it is only available in Cydia, you must have a jailbroken iPhone, to use this app.

I prefer BiteSMS, for $3 more you get all that plus 50 texts you can use for international or while roaming.

I love this add-on!! 🙂

When biteSMS brought this feature into there version back when FW 1.X.X was around, that was wicked. I stopped using biteSMS and QuickSMS because its slower at loading, etc. (Yes the apps have improved now) but I still prefer this quick add-on and works like a charm! The new updated version with the lockscreen double tap is a nice feature.
I highly recommend this add-on.

I wasn't going to get this as I don't text much, but with MMS working now I'm finding my texting has gone up a good bit the past week. If it continues, I give this a try.

I agree – BiteSMS is a much more complete SMS client (password lock, cheaper international SMS through BiteSMS's network, emoticon display, SMS counter, contact pic displays, quick reply and and compose, privacy option) for only a fraction more… but I think they raised their price to $8.95 CAD…
