Shopago! for iPhone; Find The Best Deals & Discounts

If you are like me, you like deals and discounts. Receiving a couple dollars off of a new purchase of anything is always welcomed rather than paying full price. So when I saw the iPhone app Shopago!, I was instantly drawn to it.

Shopago! by Sasquatch Software

Shopago! is a virtual flyer that finds deals, promotions and discounts from both local and national businesses within Canada. The developers are based out of Vancouver, BC, so they naturally have a place in my heart (and on my iPhone!).

The app is very simple and very clean. You navigate through the app by using three primary menu functions:

  • Find the Hottest Deals…
  • Sort by Category
  • Find Deals by…

The app provides good flexibility in terms of searching for deals. Under “Find the Hottest Deals…”, you can search by keywords and under “Sort by Category”, you can search within specific categories such as Travel, Food & Drink, Retail, Entertainment and Services. Each listed category then has numerous sub-categories to find specific promotions.

The “Find Deals by…” section includes additional search items such as BOGO, Totally Free, 50% off or More and $10 and Under. This section is useful if you are looking for a specific price point or no price at all, something that you would find under the “Totally Free” area.

Once you locate the ad for you chosen deal, the app presents you with additional information about the company advertising the promotion and their location using the iPhone Google Maps.

Since the app uses Google Maps for location services and must download data from the cloud for specific deals and promotions, you will need an active data or WiFi connection. From the looks of it, it seems that the developers will manage the content and keep information current and relevant. This is the only flaw that is readily apparent in the app, as I can foresee that not every deal everywhere may be up to date.

Overall, Shopago! provides valuable information for those of you who are deal hunters and since the app is free, it itself is a deal! The information is Canadian based and relevant to both local and national companies within Canada. The only issue that could develop is updated promotions information because it seems that the content is managed manually by the developer, so not every deal/promotion may be readily available.

You can check out Shopago! in the iTunes App Store for Free!

The app doesn't appear to use my location, as a result I get a great free deal for free Guinness if I wear a kilt on Kilt Thursdays at a bar in Vancouver, but nothing locally in Ottawa.

Hopefully they'll improve with time…

I agree with Montymon it needs a way to either let us tell us where we are or use location services and show stuff closer to home… I tired to enter my Local city as the “look in” and that didnt work this app needs alot of work before its somthing extrmenly useful.
