XM Radio Canada launches XM Online+ for iPhone/iPod Touch

On Tuesday, XM Radio Canada released its App called “XM Online+” giving iPhone and iPod users the ability to access XM programming from anywhere in the world. This follows suit with Sirius and their application for the iPhone.

XM Online+ will have 100 channels offered initially, including commercial-free music, NHL Home Ice, talk shows, MLB Home Plate, and headline news from CNN and Fox.

“More and more Canadians are plugged in to the online and mobile world and we are thrilled to provide them with a comprehensive service that lets them listen to XM at home, at work or on the go,” said Janet Gillespie, Marketing Vice-President of XM Canada.

“This new app is the first among a series that we are working on as we plan to expand our availability on mobile devices for our customers,” she added.

The new application is available on Apple’s App Store now. (iTunes Store Link)

The application is being released as a free download through the Canadian iTunes app store, but in order to use it, you will be charged a $2.99 per month surcharge when bundled with an XM satellite radio subscription or $7.99 for XM online+ subscribers.

Users can also test the news service by visiting XMRadio.ca/iPhone and signing up for a 14 day trial.

Sirius Canada also released a similar app recently, only as an existing sirius customer there is no extra charge to listen on the iphone app.

I've also noticed that in order to listen to XM online on your computer you must now pay extra for the same online + subscription. Asper above Sirius subscribers are not asked to pay any extra.

I might think about it if it wasn't XM Canada. For that money I want the US feed. I can only take so much Gordon Lightfoot, April Wine, Trooper, Burton Cummings and Rush.
