The Latest iPhone OS Beta 4 Features Revealed

Yesterday Apple seeded iPhone OS 4.0 Beta 4 to developers. This was exactly two weeks after the the release of Beta 3. As always, once these new betas are out in the open “newly” discovered features make it onto the Internet in lightning speed.

Here’s a round up of some of the newest features in the lastest beta below. More updates will come your way as tidbits are slowly being released online.

FSM reports of an update to the iPhone’s baseband:

Some new wallpapers are now available to grace your iPhone (image courtesy of iSpazio):

There’s now a Utilities folder that contains the Compass, Calculator, Clock, and Voice Memo (image courtesy of iSpazio): this can be user created:

When the orientation lock is in place, the Camera Roll can now be viewed in landscape:

…and this doesn’t relate to Canadians, but it looks like our American neighbours will finally get tethering via AT&T! We are lucky to have had tethering included with our iPhones in Canada!

With Apple’s 2010 WWDC arriving in the first week of June, we can most likely expect the final build of 4.0 being released around that time, plus the introduction of the next iPhone 4G. It’s going to be an exciting time folks!

I guess somebody didn't watch the apple event with a demo of OS 4.0. The “Utility Folder” is not a new development. When they did the demo they showed how users can create their own folders to group their apps and similar apps such as games can be grouped in these folders together. Gary, you're losing your touch!

Have they restored the ability in Pictures, to start/resume a slide show from any photo?

No, what he is saying is that there is already a utilites folder created for you with defalult apps onside( voice memos, clock, etc.).

Wrong.

This Utilities folder now shows up as a folder in the new beta, but can also be user created.

Yeah I agree, I really didn't understand what you were saying before it was all cleared up LOL!

That is a good point though Gary. We will have to see if it appears that way once we get the release. It's like a little mental wager. 😉
