iPhone 4 vs Other Smartphones: Chart

With the announcement of iPhone 4 yesterday, many noticed that Steve Jobs and Co. unleashed a bevy of new features and specs. Since the original iPhone launch in 2007, other companies have been playing catch up with Apple. Fast forward three years later and the emergence of Android as an iPhone alternative has become a reality for many.

Just how does the iPhone 4 compare to other smartphones such as the HTC EVO 4G, Nokia N8, Palm Pre Plus, and and HTC HD2? Take a look at the following chart Engadget put together (RIM is missing because…they need to try a bit harder):

However you put it, the best smartphone comes down to your own personal preferences. One thing these other phones will never beat out is the App Store. With over 200,000 apps, there’s no competition there whatsoever.

This is a great chart for people who care about tech specs, but like you said, the App Store has them all beat. Not just the great independent developers and company Apps, but Apple's Apps are by far some of the best designed pieces of software for mobile devices. The iPhone is *using* it's tech better than any other phone. 🙂
(- my overly-iPhone Fangirl opinion, also entirely biased from having just watched the WWDC Keynote in it's entirety.)

uhhh, i just love iPhone. it has offered the greatest touch tech among all the touch screen mobile phone. but i am not an apple fan. i am even a hater. apple has really done a great job on apps . but android can provide even more, in terms of openness and freedom. u wont be charged on internet tethering, u will get flash and lots of features that iphone cannot offer.

however, nowdays, smartphone is all about touch. that's the main reason i switch back from android to iphone. not to mention the quality of the new iphone 4 is just incredible. i am sold.

I was surprised to see windows 6.5 to only have 12 hours of audio playback. That would be a big thing to look at in my eyes if i was to stray from iphone for any reason.
On the Other side Apple claims the 3Gs gets 32Hours of audio playback. but as most of us know thats simply not true. you have put it in to airplane mode, and turn off all functions to get that many hours. Doing that turns you iphone into an iPod basically.

In my own experience every day i listen to about 12 hours of music daily while at work, little at home.
When i get home im sitting around 30% (thats if music is non-stop) with all normal functions on.
Makes me wonder if this chart is also measured by turning all additional options off, cutting Cellular ability.

Unfortunately, the one other phone on that list that I would seriously consider getting, and actually probably would get instead of the iPhone, the EVO, is not available in Canada.

read the apple iPhone specs page, it appears the iPhone 4 supports both VGA and Component out…

Highly unlikely. You're not more than 7 months into a 36 month contract. I'm in the exact same boat, and it's not a great boat to be in. I might sell my 3gs on kijiji/ebay and use the money to pay for an iPhone 4, but no idea how much I can get for it.

You will have to pay full price.

Or anywhere else in the majority of the world cuz it's a CDMA phone!

If Rogers offered the same upgrade plan for the iPhone 4 as they did last year with the 3GS, I think most would be happy campers. I know I certainly would be! Either way, I can't wait to get my hands on this beauty!

Why not just get an mp3 player. The data rates are way cheaper!

Because I do require a cell phone as well. The iPhone is an all in one package of everything I use. Music is just one of the features I happen to use most. Also not many mp3 players can match the iPhone/pod quality, not to mention all the apps

sure they are in top spot due to loyalty and long time markey share, but I think we all know they are seriously lagging behind in terms of new innovations….

Well, the app store has a lot of apps, but you quantity isn't everything. Android has some super nice apps that the iPhone doesn't have, because the iOS is more restrictive in what you are able to do with it.

Any idea when/if it might be released up here? I really would love a smartphone with flash and free tethering. I could live without the 200,000 + apps if I had that.

charge it at work. Usb wire comes with it and goes to a box, the box thingy goes to the wall and charges.

easy: plug in your iphone to your computer/laptop/ass.

I get it’s about the iPhone, but saying RIM needs to try harder than WebOS is like saying Adidas needs to try harder to beat Pony Shoes.

Guys, there is a way to use your microSIM card in every mobile phone, and not only in the Iphone! I heard there is a thing called micro sim adapter. Basically, you put your microSIM card inside it and use it in any phone. I googlesearched it and found this site that sells it: gomicrosim.com They say it costs 4.5 EUR. They also seem to offer the sticker guide to cut the regular simcard into the microsim. IMHO their price and quality is the best so far.
