Apple Officially Announces July 30 iPhone 4 Launch Date

Earlier this morning, Apple issued a press release officially announcing the release of the iPhone 4 in 17 new countries for this Friday, July 30th.

Everyone who watched the July 16 Apple press conference and has been following our reports shouldn’t be surprised by this date, but it is nice to see an official statement.

CUPERTINO, California—July 26, 2010—Apple’s iPhone® 4 will be available in 17 more countries this Friday, July 30. iPhone 4 features FaceTime®, which makes video calling as easy as one tap, Apple’s new Retina display, the highest resolution display ever built into a phone, resulting in stunning text, images and video, and a beautiful all-new design of glass and stainless steel that is the thinnest smartphone in the world.

Beginning this Friday, customers can purchase iPhone 4 in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. iPhone 4 will be available for purchase through Apple’s retail and online stores and Apple® Authorized Resellers.

Pricing & Availability
iPhone 4 will be available in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland this Friday, July 30.

iPhone 4 is currently available in France, Germany, Japan, the UK and the US for a suggested retail price of $199 (US) for the 16GB model and $299 (US) for the 32GB model. iPhone 4 will roll out to many more countries later this year and Apple will announce availability and local pricing for these additional countries at a later date.

Oddly enough, the Apple Canada Online store still lists the iPhone 4 as “Coming soon” and the press release, while mentioning US pricing, neglected to announce Canadian pricing.

We anticipate more details to be released this week, as the Canadian wireless carriers have started to launch their hardware upgrade/renewal programs for a July 30, 2010 launch.

Will there by a way to pre-order the iPhone 4 online or do we have to wait in line at midnight?
I ordered my iPhone 3G the day it came out over the phone with Fido, will that be possible again?

Having signed a 3 year contract with Telus in November, I REALLY hope they offer some sort of early upgrade promotion like Rogers, I would buy one 100%!

Bell told me 199/299 on contract, as expected.

I called FIDO this morning and the person CONFIRMED the launch both instore and online for this friday (he would NOT confirm pricing, but DID confirm that i'm eligible for the upgrade pricing (199 or 299 i assume) if i resign a 3 year contract because i'm 14months BEFORE my end contract (mine is aug 11, 2011 like most 3GS owners).

This means online you can order the phone (though if you have to resign or do some funny or not normal things with your contract, going in is probably the best bet) friday. i wonder what time that will be up?

9am?

Anyone else with this same experience?

I got mine preordered already by a company in montreal. It is the company that deals with the engineers order of Quebec which I'm part of. Prices are 199 for 16GB amnd 299 for 32GB and I should get mine on friday or Monday at the latest. I won't have to wait in line or nything, just go there when they call me to tell me my phone is ready. Plans are the same as iphone 3 also.

nope.. it will be shipped if you order online.. so probably a following week. in store, obviously, you'd be able to walk out with one. i just called the eaton centre location. they said they're not opening up any earlier (10am) or so she thinks, but confirmed getting a shipment, hopefully, by wednesday into the store!

I'm in Edmonton, and I got someone to take over my 3GS a month ago just so I could get the iPhone 4 at the cheapest price (I had signed up for it in March) My question is about line-ups. I previously had the 3g and the 3gs, but never had i acquired them on launch day. I'm going to be going to my nearest Telus store (Londonderry Mall) to line up, I'm wondering (from people who had previously been there on launch day) what time should I head there? I was thinking 5 or 6 AM, is that too late?? Some advice please.

What has happened to the announcement that you could buy the phone outright at the apple store…as in sans contract? Is this still going to happen?

That hasn't changed.
You can still buy it outright, unlocked.

The Best Buy Canadian website lists the carriers available for the iPhone4 on July 30th launch day, and Rogers is one of them: http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/iphone4.aspx
Mistake, or did Rogers want to announce their iPhone4 launch date on the Best Buy website instead of their own?

Carriers don't buy out contracts anymore (I checked) and Rogers will be the cause of the end of the world. Stay away. I'm switching to Telus on Friday.

Thats awesome, the line will probably be shorter than the one at the apple store.

I don't get all the secrecy. If it wasn't for sites like this one, nobody would have a clue of what is going on. You would think that the launch is being handled by the CIA or something. Iv'e clicked the iphone button in the apple store so often on my last visit I had to order a new ( enter ) key. This is really starting to feel like sitting in second class waiting for first class to pass down their leftovers.

Switching to Telus? Did you check the retentions thread on Howard or RFD for Telus Vs Rogers?

Telus will give you free CID and tell you it's the best retention offer they can make you…

I have a 3GS which I plan on selling to a friend when I get the iPhone 4. This friend is on another network so I will have to unlock my phone. Is there any way to currently unlock a 3GS with O.S4.0.1? Can anybody point me in the right direction. I have tried Google but cant seem to find any solid answers.

I was told by one person (I dont know if this is correct) that there is no way to currently unlock O.S4.0 if the phone was manufactured after Aug-Sept 2009. Any truth to this?

I agree. I find it very insulting as a Canadian that we have no info on pricing, plans or anything.

I was with Telus for years, with no major issue (just sucks calling in and dealing with them) I then got my 3G through Rogers and realised that really, there is no big difference in dealing with the CSR's so I have no problem going back to Telus for my 4.

Good question.

You probably can with Apple but I have a feeling that ordering a locked
iPhone 4 through the carrier website will prove more difficult. I see things
crashing. Alot.

I was going to say…Rogers really needs to beef up their server. Hope they have a lot of inventory at their warehouse in Ontario…

Last years release was horrible…. it took 1+ hour to activate each phone at Best Buy. It was even worse the previous year when the system crashed for hours at a time.

July 25 of which year? 2009 or 2010 (yesterday!!!)

Also, they might not officially tell people they are eligible yet, full details are not available yet (eligible for upgrade does NOT equal new customer pricing).

Why don't you try to squeeze a deal out of Rogers retentions?

Telus will spit on you as soon as you sign a contract, you become their thing.

Does anyone have any idea if the iPhone 4 models being shipped to FS/BB will be unlocked or will they be carrier specific as they have been in the past. I know they just recently unlocked the 3GS but not sure if the 4's will be coming unlocked right away? Any ideas?
