While waiting in line overnight for the iPhone 4 on launch day, Apple.ca quietly updated their website to allow the option to order unlocked iPhone models for Canadians. The only downside? Orders would start shipping in three (long) weeks!
Apple iPhone 4 Orders Have Started Shipping in Canada
Just like the Apple iPhone 4 Case Program, Bumpers have already shipped and have arrived earlier than expected. This has also applied to the iPhone 4. Given the extreme shortage at the moment, it looks like ordering online for an unlocked unit is probably your best bet for securing yourself an iPhone 4.

i ordered my BEFORE the person who took the screenshot in the post but mine is only “prepared for shipment”.
Mine still says “Prepared for Shipment”. (I noticed the change and missing funds hehe around 5PM so it must have happened sometime before that.)
I ordered my iPhone 4 32GB at 03:36AM PDT on July 30th and chose the Expedited shipping option. Hopefully it’ll arrive before the weekend.
I couldn’t wait any longer so I just ordered a 32GB 3GS in White. I’ll just wait for iPhone 5.

Pre ordered at 2:50am PDT July 30th. “Prepared for Shipment”
I ordered it at 8:30am eastern time. Last night it went into the Preparing for Shipment status and then an hour or so later it changed to shipped and gave me the FedEx tracking info. I didn’t pay for expedited. Odd thing too is on my MasterCare they did the temp authorization when I bought it, but that dropped off ages ago and there’s no new charges on my card either so who knows.
hey im getting confused yesterday i checked my order status it said ships 20 august arrives 26 august and today it written prepared for shippment and this article says that someone got the iphone 4 today and he ordered it on the same day i did and he lives in the same satate i do so can someone help i mean can apple wirte arrives august 26 and it arrives today or tomorrow if somebody can help plz reply!

Same here, I ordered at 3:04 PDT (before the person in the article), and mine still says Prepared for Shipment. I think it’s because we ordered the 32GB. Hopefully they start shipping tonight.
…because they can only make a few hundred 4’s a week?..or am I getting jerked by a marketing strategy that provides limited #’s to up the hype?
Either way, I don’t work for Apple they work for me, so there are more important things/issues/human crises than twitchy tech & its addiction
Actually, he is just lucky with 4 days to be honest (it states that it will take 3 weeks to ship) and in the screenshot case it’s been shipped after 17 days. (He ordered in June 30th and the process was made in Aug 17th) i don’t understand the fuss about this… So, whoever ordered at that time will be receiving no later than Aug 21st. However, this was really a good post in a sense that it gives us hope “it is POSSIBLE to receive before the expected date” 🙂

Does anyone know what we’re supposed to do about the micro sim? I’m with Telus, when I bought the iPhone online it never asked who I’m with. I have the 3GS so just the big sim. I assume I just have to go to Telus and ask them for a smaller sim? Does anyone know if they deactivate your old sim and activate this one? Reason I want to know that is because the concierge in my condo would call me when FedEx arrives, but if my current sim doesn’t work then I won’t have a phone! I’d just prefer to have the sim ready vs getting the phone and having to go to Telus before I can use it. Or I guess I could attempt to cut my sim first…
I went to a local Fido store and purchased a hybrid SIM/Micro-SIM card (its got breakaway parts so you can use it as a SIM card and then break away a bit more and it becomes a MicroSIM) for $10 + tax. I figured that’d be quicker than trying to get a MicroSIM from Apple.ca on the unlocked iPhone 4 I’m getting.

Full price for 2 32gb models, won’t you feel silly when this fake shortage stops. Stopping sometime after Apple has suckered enough people into buying outright I imagine.

Ordered both iPhone 4 16G and 32G at the same time, single checkout. Got an email saying 16G is being shipped. No word on the 32G thou.

This is absurd. I just came back from a day of waiting in line at the Apple Store at Yorkdale Mall, Ontario, from early EARLY. There was a lineup of over 50 some people. At one point the Apple Store manager came out and told us all that there was enough iPhone’s for everyone today. On a pee break, I ran into the UPS guy who told me, quite candidly, “Apple gets shipments every DAY — I just dropped off about 100 of them”. THEN, a few minutes later, Apple employees were out telling everyone to go home and that there was no shipment today!!!! WTF??? FOUL!!! FOUL!!!! I’m done. I am DONE. I’ve tried everything and I’m just done. WHY THE HELL ARE ROGERS AND FIDO CUSTOMERS GETTING SCREWED while I can buy a Telus and Bell iPhone 4 TWENTY TIME OVER?!?! I cannot afford to buy an unlocked iPhone 4, nor can I buy out of my Rogers contract. Is Apple trying to battle their Antennagate press by creating a shortage? They’re LOSING customers. I’ve never seen the like.
They should as Fido is owned by Rogers. Other carriers should have them as well. If they don’t, then you could grab a MicroSIM and use it with a MicroSIM-to-SIM adapter (you can get them on ebay [from Canada] and other places for under $10 with free shipping).
I was worried about the same thing before I ordered online. I called up my local Apple store and asked what am I going to do when I get my phone as it doesn’t come with a micro sim (and apparently you get one free if you purchased in person at the Apple store). The rep told me just to bring the phone to the store and they would give me the sim free of charge.
You don’t live in a state. And what do you expect anyone here to do?? You think we know when apple is going to ship your phone??
Unrelated but for those that have them, are you experiencing the antenna issue? I was playing around with one in the store the other day and was able to stop it dead when loading a webpage with my pinky finger…..
I know a lot of people say it isnt an issue with ‘normal use’ but couldnt you accidently touch the spot when using it ‘normally’ ?
I really wanted this iphone, but honestly, seeing the antenna issue is still and issue and rumors of a new CDMA iphone with insulated antenna probably by xmas makes me think it might be a good idea to wait 6 months…..

Considering they still sell for over $1000 on ebay, no I don’t feel silly buying them for $800 to turn a quick profit. I got my 32 gig unlocked for free.
I can grip it in such a way to make the signal drop a bar or 2, but have yet to run into any issues with just using it.
No dropped calls, etc.
Yes, the ones I got from Rogers were hybrid.
It often doesnt affect calls all that much, have you tried it while using data over 3G though? its when using safari that I noticed problems….

Okay so I ordered my iPhone 4 from the Apple website. I live in Nova Scotia and I’m pretty sure that there aren’t any apple stores here. I currently have a HTC Touch Diamond on a 3 year contract with Bell. If I get the iPhone 4 can I just change the contract over to my iPhone 4? Thanks!
I ordered an iPhone 4 32GB through Fido customer relations department on Monday and it shipped a couple hours after I got off the phone. Should be getting it on Friday 🙂

I did an HUP(Fido) almost two weeks ago, and lately I’ve been thinking would apple let me exchange the 16GB to 32GB by paying the difference. If not..can I do a refund then buy the 32 again and still get the upgrade price?
oh yea reason is they’re replacing my phone because something about the built in modem resets 7 times in two weeks is not a healthy numbers…so I might as well just exchange the 16 to 32
