Apple Announces iOS 4.1 For iPhone & iPod touch, iOS 4.2 For iPad
This morning at Apple’s September music event, the company announced iOS 4.1 for iPhone and iPod touch and also previewed iOS 4.2 for iPad.
iOS 4.1
The first thing that was announced is that all of the bugs have been fixed!
That includes the proximity sensor on the iPhone 4, Bluetooth bugs across the iPod touch and iPhone, and lastly the much talked about iPhone 3G performance issues have been fixed.
HDR
iOS 4.1 is also delivering a new feature called High Dynamic Range Photos (HDR).
HDR is a new camera-based feature where the device camera takes three photos at the same time when taking a photo of something. The three photos taken are a under-exposure, normal, and over-exposure photo.
When these three photos are taken, the three are then combined to make the best quality photo. What this does for photos is increase/reduce shadow or brightness and reveals much more detail in the photos.

HD Video & Game Center
iOS 4.1 is also delivering HD video uploading over WiFi to YouTube for example and also the new Game Center.
Game Center is Apple’s version of Microsoft’s Xbox Live where users can play multiplayer games, challenge friends, compare scores, and be matched against anyone of similar skill in a game.
Availability
iOS 4.1 is available for iPhone and iPod touch as a free download next week.
iOS 4.2
During this morning’s event Apple also provided a sneak peek of iOS 4.2!
iOS 4.2 is available for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad but the real focus is for iPad. Essentially, iOS 4.2 is bringing every single feature of iOS 4.1, such as folders and multitasking, to the iPad that the iPad can support.
Printing
iOS 4.2 is also bringing wireless printing to the iPad in the form of “Print Center”. Just like on a Mac/PC, users can view their print jobs, cancel them, and manage them right from the iPad.
AirPlay
For all three iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, iOS 4.2 is bringing a feature called “AirPlay” which is a renamed AirTunes but can stream photos and videos along with audio to your AppleTV from an iDevice over WiFi.
Availability
iOS 4.2 is available for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad as a free download in November 2010.

Can’t wait to try GameCenter!
Excellent! 😀
Would I be able to use the new AppleTV with my US iTunes account so that I can get tv shows up here in the Great White North?
I have some issues with Bluetooth randomly not connecting with my Blueant and the iPhone 4. Hope 4.1 fixes it.
About bloody time for the iPhone 3G fixes. For all the added features in 4.1, I think it was okay to wait for the update until now, but a fix for these bugs should have been included weeks ago in 4.0.1 or 4.0.2.
Did anyone notice that for the new apple TV…on the usa website they provide the 99c TV show rentals pricing at the bottom of the “specs” page…On the Canadian website we only have Movies…But Canadian itunes already offers TV show rentals…kinda weird..so I guess as always we will have to wait till this feature comes to Canadians
So basically Apple will release 4.1… then 4.2 a couple of months later?
as long as your credit card’s billing address is in the states, then yes.
is 4.1 jailbreakable? using redsnow or what? anyone know? anyone try it
No Webcam for the new IPad? That’s what I was waiting for! (sigh)
i cant believe they made facetime on the ipod touch, makes less people wanna buy the iphone4, its so unlike apple to provide so much value in the ipod touch
next year dont worry so you can upgrade, dont worry jobs is a marketing genuis
Don’t worry, they didn’t give the iPod Touch EVERYTHING the iPhone has. It doesnt have a flash, and the camera is nowhere near as good, no GPS either.
I think 4.2 will be only for Ipad
it says 4.2 will be available for iphone and the other devices too unless thats a typo
Looks like i was right on the money when i said early september back in Beta Testing ^_~.
heh
I just hate it when sites start dumping tons of info that has simply been copied from other sites. Would you watch Fox news if it was simply copied from ABC? I didn’t think so. Then why are there so few original stories and news articles on this site. One more week and if there is no change, it’s (iphoneincanada) gone from my daily surfing sites……..
Haha, I agree. I’ll just stick to macrumors or Gizmodo from now one. I hate getting the same story twice. Good for you for bringing it up.
Thanks for your feedback.
Obviously if we don’t meet your ultimatum by next week, I’d like to say an
early “see you later” in case I forget. Sad to see you leave.
hey guys just need a quick update have those issues with the bumper case and that whole thing been resolved…do we still need the case and are there any other issue off late for a guy to know before he walks in to get the new iphone 4
I have a BlueAnt V1 and a new T1, both work great with iOS 4.0.1. It’s on a 3GS though.
Anyone know if can I make photo folders using my idevice in 4.1?
You need to original post iphone articles that relate to Canadians.. If you truly want this website to thrive by the time iphone 5 hype starts drumming, I suggest you start calling every single carrier you can looking for any tidbit of on in relation to stock shipments. When you’re a legitimate source for finding out where the damn phones are hiding word of mouth will spread through each cycle. Another idea is Canadian app developer stories, are there any major players? How do you break into the game?
Get your fat ass off auto pilot and you’ll be fine, your on top of every google search query that relates to canada and apple if you can’t make this work you have no one to blame but yourself…
Anyone know if you are able to jailbreak 4.1 yet? Thanks
Not yet. And there probably won’t be one until it’s publicly released.
Then the REAL waiting game begins
It dose kinda suck when you see copy n pasted articles. But no onewants to be left behind eh? Lol I hear that your saying though.iPhoneinCanada is still my home ^_~. but i do have other sites i like as well.
PS: I love the HDR! Brilliant!
