Apple Releases iTunes 10.0.1 With Ping Sidebar

Today Apple released a minor update to the latest iTunes 10. The new iTunes is now version 10.0.1 and is available on a PC/Mac via Apple Software Update or from Apple’s website.

iTunes 10.0.1

The new iTunes 10.0.1 update primarily brings a new Ping sidebar, which is essentially a glance at your Ping friends and artists activity in any of your current iTunes windows.

The update also installs a few enhancements and bug fixes:

  • Addresses an issue where the picture quality of a video changes depending on whether the on-screen controls are visible.
  • Resolves an issue where iTunes may unexpectedly quit when interacting with album artwork viewed in a separate window.
  • Fixes a problem that affects the performance of some third party visualizers.
  • Addresses an issue where the iTunes library and playlists appear empty.
  • Resolves an issue that created an incompatibility with some third-party shared libraries.

Also note, if you’re jailbroken or plan to jailbreak, this iTunes update is safe to download.

If they were really smart, Apple would have quietly removed Ping altogether, rather than making it appear in a sidebar with the new minor iTunes update.

Yep! At the bottom right of the screen there’s a small button with an arrow pointing right. Just click it and it will slide away!

Everytime I sync with my iPhone or iPad, it re-copy all my movies files -watched or not. Anybody knows why?

Apple needs to get rid of iTunes, not add more useless garbage like Ping. It’s already as bloated and buggy as something Microsoft would produce. They really need to work on their cloud strategy.

So does this update also include compatibility for the iPod Ninja? Mine won’t sync with 10…

iTunes should be optional. iPhone and iPod are flash memory. should implement the Drag n Drop system.
No other programs required. i know this would open up a whole new world for JB’ers but it would keep things “Simple” as Apple likes to put things

I guess I’m in the minority here, because I like the update to Ping. You can now share and follow right from your iTunes library. If you are using Ping you can friend me at http://bit.ly/pingjustin

For those of you saying iTunes is buggy, are you on Windows? I have no problems with the Mac version.

I agree with you Justin!

I think that Ping isn’t perfect yet (I’d like to be a little more open so i can output it to twitter). But I think it’s a great first generation of the service. It’s not perfect yet, but if you remember what the original Facebook was like, it’s easy to see that these services need to evolve over time.

I’ll be following you now Justin, and anyone can follow me too at http://bit.ly/cfuOOt
