Turn Your iPhone Into A Webcam With Webcamera!

Webcamera is the latest app from SHAPE Services that turns your already amazing iPhone into a webcam!

Webcamera by SHAPE Services

Webcamera is simple. It is an app that turns your iPhone into a high-quality wireless webcam. Your iPhone connects to your computer via WiFi (same local network) and in no time you are online and sharing great moments with a wireless iPhone webcam!

The advantages of this app are obvious, since the iPhone need not be tethered to the computer. While FaceTime can also accomplish this, not everyone has a Mac, an iPhone 4, or the latest iPod touch.

As you may have guessed, the app does require a desktop compliment program that is downloaded for free. That program is essentially your connecting interface for the app on the iPhone. Once that is set up, your iPhone is now a webcam.

Listed below are just some of the desktop services that Webcamera works with:

  • Skype
  • Yahoo
  • Windows Live Messenger
  • AIM
  • ICQ

Also note that at this time, the desktop program is Windows only. The system requirements are Windows XP or later, WiFi connectivity, and iOS 4.0 or later.

Webcamera is available in the App Store for $4.99. To download the desktop client, visit Mobiola Webcamera here.

A webcam software that uses Apple hardware…but doesn’t have a Mac compatible software package. Wonderful!

Awesome! I will need to check it out for sure. My wife would love this to show off her current artwork in progress, rather then lifting her laptop in ackward angles.

Keep in mind that Apple sells 4x as many iPhone’s as Mac’s…. I think it’s safe to say that most iPhone users are NOT using Mac’s. Sorry to burst your bubble.

I take it that iWebcamera sucked for you like many of the reviews? It gets roasted in the Canadian and US stores. Let us know how Webcamera worked. No one has posted a review in the Canadian store but the developers and their four friends have all given it 5 stars in the American store. For both apps, users complain about not having audio, though if you already have a bluetooth headset then that’s a workaround.

I noticed that on two others that have been changes to the “unify volume slider” title periodically too.
I’m glad you said something, I was starting to think my safari was glitching up or something

So this webcamera app doesn’t support audio?

It’s funny that nowhere in the entire article does it mention that it doesn’t support audio, or how to work around that limitation??

This cr-app is useless without audio.
