You Can Now Jailbreak iOS 16.4.1 with Palera1n 2.0.0 Beta 6
Codenamed Bakepale, the latest v2.0.0 beta 6 update to jailbreak tool Palera1n has just been released, which fully supports iOS 16.4 - iOS 16.4.1 jailbreak.
Untethered iOS 4.2.1 Jailbreak Due By Christmas
At this time, the way to jailbreak your iOS 4.2 device is by using a tethered jailbreak. This means that whenever your iDevice turns off or battery dies, you have to plug the device into iTunes to reactivate. It’s a decent process, but not very convenient.
Earlier in December, Comex (Spirit jailbreak, JailbreakMe) indicated that an improved untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 was on its way before Christmas 2010.
This week via Twitter, MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev-Team, has given further confirmation of an untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1. The release date, once again, is planned for Christmas 2010. No specific dates were provided, but we may see a new efficient jailbreak next week.

This upcoming untethered jailbreak will most likely be available for all current iOS 4.2.1 devices. That includes iPhone 4, iPad, 2010 Apple TV, and the fourth generation iPod touch.
Oddly enough, the original tweet by MuscleNerd seems to have been deleted. There has been no update on the removed tweet, but could this represent a delay in the jailbreak tool? We’ll see next week.

So will this still be using the ipad exploit or will this be a completely new/different jb exploit? I’m curious because as of right now if you use the ipad exploit then there’s no way to go back and do a restore on itunes. Thanks to those who take the time to respond.
Just a friendly reminder that Jailbreaking allows you to run a custom firmware on your phone, but the baseband has to be at a certain version or else Ultrasn0w can’t unlock it. (For the moment the highest version of BB for 3G’s was 5.13) However, using a custom firmware to flash the iPad baseband 6.15 onto a 3G for example will yield your device unlockable because Ultrasn0w makes use of an exploit to unlock it. A Tethered jailbreak means that in order to boot your device, as the article seems to incorrectly state, you must use the Redsn0w tool to boot the device while it’s connected to your computer, and has nothing to do with a carrier unlock. I hope this isn’t too confusing for you. I’ve got both an old 3G and an iPhone 4, and have to boot my 4 with that method.
*The article states you have to plug it into iTunes, which must be a typing error. It is Redsn0w that is required to reboot/boot up an idevice at firmware 4.2. And just so any admins know, I’m not trying to be critical, mistakes are made infrequently on this blog, I always come back to it for information and updates. Keep up the good work.
I have an iphone 3GS with 4.1 iOS on it. I get/understand the whole tether/untether process but I was just curious if this is the same exploit being used to jailbreak the iphone using the ipad firmware’s exploit. My sister still has an old 3.xxx iOS (jb) on her iphone 3 and she’s been wanting to update for ages but not if it can never be reveresed via itunes as it’s been stated on here that the latest jb can’t be restored via itunes if something ever goes wrong. Thanks for your reply though, it’s appreciated!
