OpenFeint Acquired By Japanese Gaming Firm GREE For $104 Million

OpenFeint, the iOS (and Android) social gaming platform, has announced that the company has been purchased by Japanese gaming firm GREE for $104 million.

GREE, Japan’s leading mobile social gaming platform, today announced its entrance into the global market with the acquisition of OpenFeint’s outstanding securities for US $104 million, plus additional capital for accelerated growth of the OpenFeint platform.

GREE is a popular, and one of the largest, Japanese social networking platforms currently boasting upwards of 25 million users. The purchasing of OpenFeint now brings an additional 75 million OpenFeint users across iOS and Android to the GREE social media platform.

OpenFeint users should not be concerned with the transition, as OpenFeint says that they will continue to grow their network while accelerating upgrades with GREE’s backing.
