As first noted by It’s All Tech, iOS 5 Beta 3, released earlier today, has introduced a number of updates.
Some of the highlights of the new beta are:
- Location Services can now be enabled/disabled from the initial setup screen
- You can now create a new “Mailbox” from within the Mail app
- You can disable/enable system processes use location services
- All video content previously in the iPod app has been moved to the “Videos” app
- Music has a “Store” button that brings you to the iTunes Store
- iTunes Wi-Fi Sync has a new name
- Reminders received an updated app icon
- Voice Roaming can be toggled on/off in Settings
- Software Update now shows which iOS version the device has installed
- “Clear Cookies and Data” has been added in Safari settings
- New “Advanced” menu in Safari preferences
- New “Assistive Touch” accessibility feature
What do you think?
Sounds like Apple is getting everything together with those needed functions, but why is there still no “disable roaming text message” toggle? Is there any technical issue to have it in place? This really what I would like to have with my iPhone because I visit US so often and it’s so expensive to just “receive” text in the States. I can choose wether or not to answer the call while roaming but I don’t have control over text service. I have to call the service line to temporary disable it before I cross border and call again to enable it. Telus rep told me that I can do it myself online but it never worked.

I don’t think they should have reverted back to the separate Videos and Music icons. Integrating it all into just “iPod” was more efficient in my opinion. If people had issues with finding their videos and this being the rationale behind 2 separate icons, then my goodness you need more than a smartphone.

I wish Apple would just integrate an SB Settings type system in the notifications center. Being able to turn on/off 3G, Data, Wifi, Bluetooth brightness adjustments, kill all button for apps etc. But oh yeah it’s Apple, they gotta save that for the next big update, probably won’t see simple additions like that until iOS 6.

I agree. Especially anyone that has music videos. Logically it could go with the music. Also, calling the app iPod makes me think that all my media files will be there (just like if I used an iPod nano or classic).
What exactly is Assistive Touch?
Seriously? Not possible any more to turn data roaming off without also turning voice roaming off???Â
That’s a big no-no, Apple!

Wouldn’t you just turn off “cellular data”?
Really!!?? If it’s true, I will have to consider switching the carrier very seriously. I am with Telus. Since I switched to HSPA system a year ago, they have been charging me 45 cents each received message when I was in States. It is really stupid.

Yeah it is a rip off. I’m a Fido rep, and I assure you that there’s no fees for receiving texts outside Canada.
