Ipsos Reid: iPhone Users Have Five Times More Apps Than Blackberry Users

Ipsos Reid has published a new report about Canadians using mobile apps.

The report reveals that 3 in 4 users who own a smartphone have downloaded at least one mobile app. The report further reveals that app usage is significantly impacted by the operating system of the device.

For example, the study shows that almost every iPhone user (96% of those surveyed) has downloaded an App. In comparison, 59% of Blackberry users have downloaded at least one App and Android users fall in the middle with about 66% of users downloading at least one App.

On average, Smartphone users estimate they have 19 Apps on their device at any one time (the average number of Apps for a Tablet is higher at 25). The number goes up considerably among Apple iPhone users, who report five times more Apps than BlackBerry users (34 Apps versus 6 Apps).

As for app preferences, it looks like Canadians favour weather, games, and social networking apps the best.

How many apps do you have on your iPhone?

*Thanks Billy!

You know, it’s getting kinda annoying when stats are brought out that supposedly show Apple is better than  BB somehow.  People just don’t understand that BB and Apple are in *TWO DIFFERENT MARKETS!!!!*  BB is business and Apple is consumer.

I own both.  I don’t give a flying **** about getting apps on my BB.  I want my e-mail, BBM, and phone functions to work, and on the BB they do a stellar job on it.  *Maybe* the occasional app if it’s business related.

On my iPhone I want apps, and they do that great.

So why the comparison?  Who cares.  Two different markets people.

*sigh*

the same reason people compare BB’s email to iPhone’s.

Sounds like you do care or you wouldn’t be venting so heavily. If it’s iPhone related this site will post it, and that’s all there is to it, get over yourself already.

But I think this site is posting too many “iPhone is better than RIM and Android” or “RIM is in big trouble” type “news”.

It is quite unnecessary, IMHO.   Most iPhone users don’t care or worry much about Blackberry, apart from a few who like ego boosting.

But you have to remember that it’s not this site writing the articles … They find them on various Mac Fan sites, Blog sites and News sites … My conclusion is that if someone out there is writing about it then people want to read it, hence this site posts it.

This is an Apple fan-boi site.  What were you expecting?  People on this site worship the iPhone, and think Steve Jobs is the Messiah.

Poor Blackberry. Their users hide under the “I don’t give a f**k about apps” and “Blackberry is for business” blanket.

I agree a little when some might say that we see a little too much “RIM sucks” on this site but I still like to see the stats. I can assure you that if the tables were turned that Blackberry users would have the same outlook. I used to be a hardcore BB fanboy… but there comes a time when I just want what works best.

I’m not trying to be a dick here but really… Blackberry isn’t even in the smartphone race anymore. F**king sad… but very true

Don’t own an Android phone, although I’m sure both have about the same amount of crap-apps ;)  It’s a shame they don’t have iFart and iBeer for the BB.  Maybe if BB had apps like those, all 3 would be on the same crap-app level 😉
