With the release of iOS 5 Beta 4 before the weekend, Apple delivered a much improved iOS 5 beta (from a performance perspective) and a few subtle updates and tweaks. For those keeping track, the following list details only what is new in iOS 5 Beta 4.

One of the major new updates in Beta 4 is the ability to download firmware updates over-the-air or OTA. Beta 4 enabled this feature and users could update their devices to iOS Beta 4 using WiFi or 3G
A little love arrived for Windows users who now have the ability to use Wi-Fi sync. This features removes the need to sync iTunes content via the dock connector cable
As usual, iMessage Beta 1 users are unable to communicate with iMessage Beta 2 or later users.
iCloud has a new setting to toggle to sync documents and data
Maps has a new popup message stating that turning on Wi-Fi improves location accuracy
In the Notification Center, the next-day Calendar events are italicized and show “Tomorrow”
Bugs
In Mail, when forwarding a message with attachments included does not attach the file and the message compose screen does not change from “Loading….â€
In Personal Hotspot, a bug prevents the iPhone 4 device from joining personal hotspot even if it is on due to a non functional WiFi tethering on these devices.

So, how is wifi sync good if you still need to be plugged in? haha. I guess a dock in another device away from your computer, such as a stereo or alarm clock, would still work. But still, why neuter the feature like that? Weirdos.

as far as im concerned, iMessage wont be as good as BBM when it comes out for now. Only advantage i see of iMessage is that its 1 app only and not 2. other than that, i dont see how u can for ex: have a status, id, profile pic, group chat, join groups , etc … i guess only time will tell. but i do hope apple incorporates that or else theyll lose

You can sync over wifi with it not being plugged in. It says that it will automatically sync when it is plugged in, but there is nothing stopping you from manually syncing it from your computer.

The personal hotspot bug is a little bit misleading…
The way it’s written, i understand that I can not connect my iPhone 4 to an existing wifi hotspot from an other iPhone 4.
The personal hot spot does not work at all in wifi… I can not connect anything to the wifi hotspot even of I’m seeing the network.

I don’t think they purposely disabled this function…
iOS 5 beta is for testing only… it’s there for programmers to test and develop their apps… so Apple can and will release a new build even if it’s not perfect.
