Carriers Network Testing iPhone 5 in Locked and Sealed Boxes?

More iPhone 5 rumours coming your way, this time via the Guardian. According to their sources carriers are already testing iPhone 5 units in locked and sealed boxes:

my carrier sources tell me that the boxes in which the new iPhone hardware is encased have been transported to carriers for testing. This is an important step in the release cycle for any phone.

The next iPhones go for their testing inside locked and sealed boxes so that the carriers can carry out checks on their network compatibility in their labs. It’s very high security, as you could guess; my understanding is that barely anyone inside the carriers gets to open those boxes, and even when they do the hardware is encased in a dummy body which means there’s no clue to what the actual phone will do.

Also noted is Apple would most likely have a plan in place to identify where leaks are coming from, during any testing phase. Obviously, getting caught leaking Apple hardware would lead to severe consequences (*cough* Gizmodo). The iPhones are in the system, and apparently will begin manufacturing once they get approval.

The Guardian piece jumps all over the place and includes various iPhone 5 rumours, including today’s Telus roadmap ‘leak’, and recent chatter from analysts pushing for a September launch.

I am sorry if my queries seems off topic but wanted to get every one’s
attention as i need a solution to my problems soon. I have been with
Fido for almost 10 years and signed my last 3 year contract with Fido in
July 2010 with an iPhone 4 and currently only on my 13th month of my 36
month contract. My dad lives in the middle east and last week he has
been diagnosed with Leukemia and I would have to fly over there to be by
his side. I should be there for atleast couple of months until my other
brother comes in. So i called Fido and asked if there is any way i can
unlock my iphone 4 and use it there. Turns out it will cost me $50 for
ECF to get out of my contract since it was done after June 2010 or
something and I m in Quebec and due to Bill 60 and etc. But
unfortunately regardless of me paying the ECF and coming out of the
contract they will still not unlock my phone until July 2013 when the
full 36 months expire. Its iPhone 4 on 4.3 firmware and to the best of
my knowledge i cannot unlock it through cydia or anything, so that i can
use it. My only option is to go the legal way but FIDO wouldn’t. R they
right on not allowing me to unlock my phone despite me not in any
contract with them and got out of it by paying the ECF and also willing
to pay the $50 fees to unlock it? Please help me guys and give me any
advice on how i can have my phone legally unlocked by FIDO,since I’m
flying on the August 18th,,,thanks!!!

Why is 4G so important to everyone? 3G is fine and 4G will KILL the battery. People have become so impatient these days.

Pay out the remaining balance of the phone, then pay the cancellation fee and then pay the $50 to have them unlock the phone.

I have already paid the cancellation fee and as we speak i m under no contract with FIDO , I am also ready to pay the $50 to unlock the iPhone 4, but when i spoke to them last, they have not mentioned anything about the remaining balance of the iPhone 4? How could one determine that? I’m on my 13th month of a 36 month contract,,how much do i have to pay? How come they did not give me that choice and simply said i have got no other option but to wait until 2013 July.

Fido csr should be able to tell you if there is a balance owing on the phone. Also , try calling back multiple times as different csr’s tend to give different responses to the same questions.
