Fido Adds 50 Minutes To Select Plans & 5PM Evenings, Updates Data Add-ons

This week, Fido has updated some of their monthly postpaid plans and have also updated their data add-ons.

Voice Plan Changes

In response to Koodo’s new Canada-wide price plans, Fido has added 50 more minutes and 5PM evenings to following price plans:

  • $25 Voice Plan: 50 more minutes (150 total); 5PM evenings
  • $30 Incoming Voice Plan: 50 more minutes (200 total); 5PM evenings
  • $35/$50/$70 Voice Plan: 5PM evenings

These new plans are available on a monthly/1/2/3-year contract and are available to both new and existing customers. Call in to Fido to make the changes.

The offer is available until November 1 2011.

Data Add-on Changes

It seems that Fido has removed all of their existing data add-ons and have only kept the standard $25 500MB data plan. To get more data, you add $5.00/500MB more:

  • $25: 500MB
  • $30: 1GB
  • $35: 1.5GB
  • $40: 2GB
  • $45: 2.5GB
  • $50: 3GB

There’s also the $10/100MB plan for people who don’t need as much data. That comes at a $5/100MB overage.

They “forgot” to make the long distance free like Koodo.   How convenient.

FINALLY!!!

We can lower our monthly bill as my wife NEVER uses more than 200MB of data, and usually less than 100MB. That’ll be much cheaper than the $25/month plan we were forced to get her.

I like the one price with the increment overage idea. Much easier to pick a plan.

Are you talking About fido, if you are call retention and ask them for it they won’t be able to. They will add unlimited usage on the $30/1gb.

You’re sure Fido will launch it as well?

You should call retentions and speak to them about this. I went through our plans and asked the retentions team what they could do to lower our monthly bill. I said I would be shopping around for a better deal but wanted to see what Fido could do first before doing so. In the end I got the Flex data deal for my wife so if she stays below 150MB a month she only pays $10 for data. I was really impressed with the retentions team and have continued to be a Fido customer. They did a great job for me.

Am I the only one think this way? I think ever since Fido merged with Rogers, they are using two different market strategies. I don’t think Fido will follow the promotion because they would have done it together when Rogers announced it. They use 2 brands to hit different group of people. Don’t blame me if I am wrong. This is just my 2 cents.

The 6gb promotion for Fido has came out at the same period of time over the last 3 years, which is at the launch of the new iPhone, at that point customers will be able to switch to 6gb. Until then you can always try with customer service, chances are they will offer it to you because Rogers and Videotron offer it at the moment. As for the unlimited long distance option for Fido, gotta let people now that it drop down to 10$ for UNLIMITED CANADIAN LD which is applicable to ALL FIDO PLANS.

I just called to switch my wife’s line to the new $100MB option, but they wouldn’t do it. He said that her contract has “minimum $25/month data plan” written into it, which I seem to remember. He said if he tried to switch the data plan it would count as terminating the contract and we’d have to pay cancellation fees.

I was hoping they’d budge since she has a number of other add-ons that easily put her monthly payments over $50/month (contract calls for minimum $25/mo data and $25/mo voice) so they’re really not losing out, but he said he couldn’t make the change without us being charged cancellation.

Has anyone else had success in trying to switch their iPhone contracts over to the $10/mo data plan? I might try calling back again to see if someone else is more accommodating. He was plenty nice though and I did manage to upgrade my voice plan to the new specs without affecting my contract, so that was great.

Were you definitely talking to the Retentions department? The data flex plan (I think that’s the name) is something only a retention CS can add to your account. We changed my wife’s plan 18 months into her contract and there was no requirement of a new contract; hers runs out in December this year and then we’ll go month to month with it.

She pays:
$10 Data
$15 Voice – 50minutes a month; NO free calls
$7 Caller ID
$12ish – usual Fido & Tax

If she signed for the $25 plan, she can’t switch to the $10 without cancellation fees.
