Apple Updates iPhone Carrier Page With Koodo, MTS, SaskTel

When the first iPhone launched in Canada in 2008 (iPhone 3G), Rogers Wireless and Fido, a subsidiary of Rogers, received exclusivity for the iPhone.

A year later in late 2009, Telus and Bell became official iPhone carriers with the iPhone 3GS. Soon after, Virgin Mobile, a subsidiary of Bell, also received iPhone support with the iPhone 3GS.

Fast forward to 2011 and MTS and SaskTel have also become official iPhone carriers. More recently, in the last few months, Koodo Mobile, a subsidiary of Telus, has also become an official iPhone carrier.

As it stands, Canada now has EIGHT mobile carriers that officially support the iPhone, which has been updated on the Apple Canada iPhone page:

  • Rogers
  • Fido
  • Telus
  • Bell
  • Virgin Mobile
  • MTS
  • SaskTel
  • Koodo Mobile

Amazing!

So if you’re looking for an iPhone in Canada, you have many carriers to choose from!

If you’re using an iPhone right now, who is your service provider?

Switched to Rogers when the iPhone first launched in Canada, and have never even thought of switching carriers. Love Rogers

I have been with Rogers ever since the iPhone first came out. Now I can finally switch. Will go with SaskTel. Rogers coverage sucks in Saskatchewan. About 50% of the time I only get 1 bar in the middle of Regina. Often 0 bars when on the Trans Canada. Also, they only have basic 3G in Saskatchewan with no apparent plans to upgrade.

I got an unlocked iPhone 4 directly from Apple and then I chose Fido. But they su***. Each time I call the the customer service, they said my phone is not certified with them and they cannot investigate my issue. What the fu**! It is the same phone and it is legally unlocked.

I have unlocked iPhone 4 I bought directly from Apple and I’m with Fido, they are great and their customer service usually helpful. Not to mention sweet retention plan they gave me.

Factory unlocked with bell. I wish they would offer better voice plans thought. It’s sad that they can’t realize that if they gave the customer more, then they too would get more.

I had to switch from Rogers to Bell since Rogers doesn’t have towers in the Yukon, therefore no service. I loved Rogers! I could do without Bell if I had a choice though.

I wish we’ll get Google Voice in Canada (with full options) before the lunch of the next iPhone so i can finally drop Rogers with their ridiculous prices and fees.

Virgin Mobile, best customer service ever

Not quite sure how you count that as 8 carriers when Rogers = Fido, TELUS = Koodo and Bell = Virgin. It’s not like Fido, Koodo or Virgin have their own networks. There are 5 carriers, only 3 of which are national and therefore available to most Canadians. Multiple brands from the same carrier merely gives the illusion of choice.

They are eight brands and eight companies with many different plans between them. So it’s eight carriers. FOCUS!
