[Update] Apple Engineer Leaks iPhone 5 Photo by Taking Picture of Lunch?

Update: The image has been pulled from Flickr. Screenshot saved by CNET here.

It appears the first iPhone 5 test photo has hit the web, according to PocketNow. The image below shows a plate of sushi, and according to its EXIF data it reveals it was not taken by an iPhone 4, but rather an 8MP camera from the iPhone 5:

This (very attractive) photo claims to have been taken by an iPhone 4, but the rest of its EXIF data tells a different story: although the image has been cropped to 2235×2291 (5.12 megapixels), the original picture was a much larger 3264×2448 — or just shy of eight megapixels. What’s more, the lens was recorded as a 4.3mm f/2.4, which is closer to that of a point-and-shoot than the iPhone 4’s actual 3.85mm f/2.8.

MacRumors points the original photo’s location over at Flickr, taken by Apple Software Engineer Anton D’Auria. His Quora page notes he works on iOS Safari, WebKit, and formerly worked on webOS at Palm.

As for his tasty lunch caption?

Lunch at work: Uni (sea urchin), hirame (wild halibut), sake (wild Alaskan salmon), avocado roll

If the purported image was indeed taken by an iPhone 5, I hope that wasn’t his last meal.

He looks like the hippie type that would bring an 8MP point and shoot camera to lunch to take pictures of his sushi and used the camera kit to import it to the iPhone and modify it in the photo’s app (which is now possible in iOS5). It’s also possible this came from an iPhone 5. Who knows! Cant wait to find out.
