According to the latest report from CNET, Apple iTunes managers are attempting to secure worldwide iCloud Music rights:
Sources familiar with the discussions between Apple, record companies, and music publishers, say Apple is seeking international music licenses for its iCloud service. The licenses would be similar to those the company has already obtained for U.S. operations
Sources mentioned if negotiations completed in time they could be announced at next Tuesday’s ‘Let’s Talk iPhone’ media event, to be held at Apple’s Cupertino Campus. Countries mentioned that could be included in an international launch were Germany, France, and the UK. There was no mention of Canada.
This information contradicts what an iPhoneinCanada.ca reader received when he sent an email about iTunes Match to newly-minted CEO, Tim Cook. The response from Apple’s VP of Internet Services, Eddy Cue was that Apple was ‘working on adding Canada’ and they hoped ‘to do so after the US launch’. Could Canada get shut out of this amazing $24.99 annual service? It might not be available to Canadians on launch, but we would hope it would launch within the window of a year later, if not longer. But that shouldn’t be a problem, since ‘waiting’ for new technology to hit our shores is a trait that is inherently part of being Canadian.
