Samsung Attacks iPhone 4S, Seeks To Block Its Sales In Japan & Australia

Last month, we told you how Samsung was prepping up to fire back at Apple as soon as the next iPhone launches by filing lawsuits based on violation of basic wireless technology patents owned by them, which they believe Apple has used in iPhone 4S. A report by WSJ suggests that Samsung has already begun the process and is now seeking to block iPhone 4S sales in Japan and Australia. The Korean company filed for preliminary injunctions in both countries this morning, claiming Apple had infringed several of its patents such as UI and wireless telecoms standards. In Japan, Samsung also requested that Apple’s iPhone 4 and iPad 2 be blocked from sale.

According to the source:

Samsung is already seeking a sales ban on the iPhone 4S in France and Italy as part of a legal tussle across 10 countries. The device went on sale in many markets last week, including Japan and Australia.

The latest action comes after a court in Australia issued a temporary injunction Thursday requested by Apple blocking Samsung from selling its Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet computer there. Also, a Dutch court Friday rejected Samsung’s call for a ban on Apple’s products in the Netherlands. Samsung said Monday it would appeal the Australia ruling.

“We are actively responding in (the legal battle) with Apple,” said James Chung, a Samsung spokesman.

The filing in Japan cites infringements in technology and user-interface patents, while in Australia Samsung cited patents related to wireless telecommunications standards.

While Samsung pushes to block the sales of Apple’s latest handset, the firm itself has been found to infringe an Apple patent in its tablet design, though no block on sales has been enforced.

Is it just me or does Samsung seem extremely desperate with all these lawsuits?

I think all of these companies seem desperate. I hope no one gets bans on any product.
