Apple to Launch Self-Checkout for Accessories via iOS App

In anticipation of the holiday season, Apple is making a number of enhancements to its online and retail store shopping offerings. Perhaps most notably announcing that customers would be able to make in-store pickups for online orders (currently only available at 20 Apple Store), and adding multiple shipping addresses for a single online transaction. Earlier today MacRumors learned that Apple is planning to launch an update to its own Apple Store iOS application that will incorporate a feature being dubbed EasyPay.

The update will allow consumers to utilize self-checkout for the purchase of accessories and other shelf-stocked items at the company’s retail stores. Purchases will be charged via the Apple Store application to the customer’s iTunes Store account. Customers won’t be able to just walk out after making a self-checkout purchase. They’ll still have to show an email receipt to any Apple employee, confirming their purchase.

Unfortunately for Canadians, the app isn’t available in the Canadian iTunes Store.

Expect the update in a few days, just in time for the holidays. In the meantime, if you have an international iTunes account, the app can be downloaded from the iTunes Store.
