Apple Continues to Investigate iOS 5 Battery Life Issues

Apple has reached out to The Loop to inform users it continues to investigate some issues of battery life in iOS 5:

“The recent iOS software update addressed many of the battery issues that some customers experienced on their iOS 5 devices,” an Apple spokesperson told The Loop. “We continue to investigate a few remaining issues.”

It was only yesterday Apple released iOS 5.0.1 to the public. Don’t forget to take our poll on whether or not you’ve noticed better battery life in iOS 5.0.1.

It’s good to hear they are checking it out.
But to say “a few remaining issues” is misrepresenting the fact that most people are still experiencing problems, as shown in the various polls on this on the web.  They should have said “we realize 5.0.1 was a fail.”

I found the heytell app was sucking mine dry, once I deleted it all was good, yet a buddy of mine has heytell and he has no problems. I’ve also heard viber can cause a drain. Strange, maybe certain apps in conjunction with others can have issues. … …. Ahhhh. Who gives a crap. I’m having another beer.

They should look into the amount of time they allow background threads from third party apps to stay open.  I found that the Whatsapp thread was open even after 2 hours, draining my battery significantly.  Btw, Whatsapp cheats because they don’t have a good enough push server to handle the high volume of users so they use the one background thread an app is allowed to pull messages after the application has closed.  That thread is supposed to be used to finish tasks already started when the app is open.

5.01 was a total FAIL!  Infact, it’s even worst than 5.0 when it comes to battery life.  WTF?

I hope this is not a sign of more failures to come.

On standby (screen off) it is holding 100% charge for 8 hours. The min. I do stuff (exp. play a game) the battery seems to loose 1% every 1 to 2 mins.

I  wasn’t using my phone and it dropped 10% of battery use in 30 minutes. As well, unless I’m on WiFi, I can no longer get on-line. What fix? I think it was a hackjob from China.

Why is it that the battery is draining when it is plugged to the electric wall outlet?!? O___o is that normal?
