Skype Introduces “Skype for String”, Make Free Calls Without Any Internet Connection

Ever wanted to make unlimited calls to your friends without requiring a computer, a mobile device or even a direct internet connection completely free? Well then, today is your lucky day as Skype introduces Skype for String, an experimental version of Skype that doesn’t require a computer or internet and lets you make unlimited calls to your family and friends. Check out this handy guide on using Skype for String.

With Skype for String you can:

  • Make audio calls.
  • Add a contact by handing them a cup that’s connected to yours.
  • Make a video call, as long as your friend is within eye sight.

(Calls to phones and mobiles are not possible with Skype for String, you’ll need a little Skype Credit and a version of Skype that’s connected to the internet to do this.)

How does it work?

Skype for String relies on a recently discovered, natural form of peer-to-peer technology that allows your voice to travel over long distances without electricity. All you’ll need to get started is a set of cups and a string with a minimum bandwidth of 5mm. Skype for String will work with any cup and string, but for the best results, we suggest using a Skype certified set.

So guys, will you start using Skype for String today?

I find the user interface confusing and non-intuitive, it will never take off.

Honestly, this type of posts degrades the image of the site. How can one take this site seriously when it posts garbage like this. Is the site run by 4 year olds?

April fools, learn to laugh once in awhile, life is pretty boring when everything is so serious.

Between this and 8-bit Google Maps… 2012 is shaping up to be the best year in tech ever! 🙂

I love the old-school vibe April Fool’s has taken on this year!

God damnit, I got caught a second time. I promised myself I wouldn’t let myself get caught by a damn joke online….

Time to stay offline for the rest of the day 🙁
