iLounge Shares Details Of iPhone 5 Including Its Size, Screen & Dock Connector

Commonly dubbed as ‘iPhone 5‘ or the “New iPhone”, Apple’s next handset is going be longer and thinner than the iPhone 4 and 4S if sources of Jeremy Horwitz, the editor-in-chief of iLounge, are to be believed. The new iPhone, which is expected to be launched by Apple this fall, was previously rumored to get a teardrop-shaped design but now, it seems that Apple will once again stick to a glass body. And since it is expected to be made partially from Gorilla Glass 2, which can be manufactured thinner with identical strength to the earlier iPhones’ Gorilla Glass, it will help Apple produce an even thinner device.

According to the source:

Approximate measurements are 125mm by 58.5mm by 7.4mm—a 10mm jump in height, nearly 2mm reduction in thickness, and virtually identical width. According to our source, Apple will make one major change to the rear casing, adding a metal panel to the central back of the new iPhone. This panel will be flat, not curved, and metal, not ceramic. Our artist’s rendition provides a rough idea of what this change will look like; it echoes the current-generation iMac design, to be sure.

The change in height will include a lengthening of the prior 3.5” screen to roughly 4” on the diagonal. As the new iPhone won’t widen, this appears to confirm that Apple will change the new iPhone’s aspect ratio for the first time since the original iPhone was introduced in 2007, adding additional pixels to the top and bottom of the screen.

The report also claims that all future iOS devices, including the new iPhone, will host a new Dock Connector which will be longer than the current one and will have 16 pins as opposed to the existing 30-pin connector.

Now we all have to go out and by new docking stations.  Will we ever stop bleeding just to catch up.  What the hell was wrong with the standard connection?

More likely the phone remains the same thickness and they make up the difference gained (by new gorilla glass, or whatever) with a bigger battery.
