iEta App – Easily Text Your Estimated Time of Arrival

I’ve always said that it is the apps that make the iPhone what it is, and I’m sure many of you will agree. Apple has created an amazing piece of hardware, but without the apps, the iPhone would be pretty useless. The iPhone, of course, is mainly used for communicating. In our fast paced lifestyles, we are always looking for ways to do things a little easier. With this new app, iEta, you can now quickly let some one know how soon you will arrive.

iEta lets you enter the person you’re going to meet (using your contacts), the location you’re meeting at, and the mode of transportation you’ll be using. Then you just tap the “On my way” button, and iEta figures out how long it will take to arrive and sets up a text message to send to your friend. As you can see in the screen shot below, it would take me about 3 hours to meet up with Gary in Vancouver, as I am Victoria. With the ferry and everything, that’s pretty accurate. Gary could then tap on the link he received and view my progress, so that he’s not waiting around, in case I get slowed down to traffic or something.

The simplest and most secure way for keeping your friends, family, and associates up to date on your estimated time of arrival.

To send an ETA, select a contact or enter a phone number, search for or input a destination, choose your mode of transportation (walk, car, bike) and press “On my way”. Your work is done!

The recipient will receive a text message with a link to view the progress you are making which automatically updates with how many minutes and miles until you arrive at the specified destination.

Eliminate the inefficiency of having to update people on when you will be arriving as well as the dangers of using your phone while traveling places.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please email us at in**@*ta.fm

Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

I suppose you could do this yourself with the stock apps already on your iPhone, but this has the convenience of looking up your contact and your location, figuring out your ETA, and texting the person you’re meeting, all in one app. Plus you get the added bonus of have your progress tracked, so you don’t have to keep texting to update your ETA.

iEta is available in the App Store now, and is 50% off for a limited time. That’s just $.99 now, but will be going up to $1.99 in the near future. Luckily we have 9 promo codes to give away for this great new app! We’ll make this contest easy: the first nine people to comment below, telling us how they could benefit from this app, get a promo code! Make sure your post is attached to a valid email, so we can contact you. Good luck!

Update: Here are the winners! Andrew, Scot Zewada, pegger1, Levi, drdca, Scott Downing, Chris G Galbraith, Daniel Kuc, montymon, and Graham Rose. Yes, we ended up having 10 codes to give away! Congrats, winners! Please email me at ro*******@************da.ca, and I’ll reply with your promo code for iEta. Big thanks to the developers of iEta for a great app and all the promo codes we were able to give away.

I use Google Latitude to do this, but perhaps iEta is a better (more focused) alternative?

Yeah, but if your friend doesn’t have an iPhone it’s useless.
