Apple: OS X Mountain Lion Exceeded 3 Million Downloads in 4 Days

Apple has just issued a press release on the success of OS X Mountain Lion, made available last week for download in the Mac App Store:

Apple® today announced that downloads of OS X® Mountain Lion have exceeded three million in four days, making it the most successful OS X release in Apple’s history.

Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing had this to say:

“Just a year after the incredibly successful introduction of Lion, customers have downloaded Mountain Lion over three million times in just four days, making it our most successful release ever,”

Let’s just say three million of those downloads were at $19.99, that’s a cool $59,970,000 in revenue in just four days, or $14,992,500 per day, or $624,687.50 per hour. That’s a nice chunk of change for Apple.

So far, reviews of Mountain Lion have been quite positive, although some users have been confused at the limitions of AirPlay Mirroring for Macs, as it requires one from mid-2011 or newer.
