Songza Tops 900,000 Canadian iOS Users In 70 days

Songza has become one of the most popular apps in Canada, topping 1 million Canadian users in just 70 days. Among them, 900,000 users are streaming music on their iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.

Songza is an iOS application allowing users to stream curated playlists based on the day, the time, and your activity. Music lovers are streaming carefully picked songs using the free app, which is put together by music experts to ensure a quality user experience.

I believe it is time to re-think how you listen to your music: instead of scrolling through your iTunes library to find the best album that fits your mood, you can choose Songza, which “calculates” everything: the time of the day, the day of the week and asks you (by making activity suggestions) about your current activity. Once Songza is aware of your activity, it comes up with a playlist that may fit your mood.

The app is powered by smaller banner ads, which only appear when you play a playlist. The app’s unique feature has raised interest from Mercedes, the two closing a deal to stream music for the New York Fashion Week.

Turns out this creative business model is what made Songza so popular. The company’s press release reveals a couple interesting facts: Songza users have enjoyed more than 160 million streams, and Canadians spend an average of 3.66% more time streaming music than do US users. Mellow is the most popular Mood in Canada, but Sexual grabbed second spot.
