Guess Who’s The Most Innovative Company Of 2012? Hint: It’s Not Samsung

Booz & Co. has just published the results for its 2012 analysis of 10 most innovative companies in the world, based on not how much these companies spend on research and development, but how those R&D funds are invested in talent, process, and tools. Well, the company who’s on top of the list is neither Google nor Microsoft or Amazon, and is sure as hell not Samsung. In fact, for the third year in a row, Booz & Co. has named Apple as the most innovative company in the world (via Fortune).

The source notes that Apple has spent on R&D less than half of what Amazon, Google and IBM have spent individually, and one third as much as Samsung and Microsoft. Yet, the company wins the top spot for the third time in a row, for the “fuzzy front end” of its innovation.

In the management consulting firm’s eighth annual survey, Apple, Google and 3M (MMM) retained their No. 1, 2 and 3 spots, respectively, Samsung rose for the second year in a row, and Amazon joined the top 10 list for the first time.

You can learn more about Booz’ methodology here.

Hahahaha calling Apple innovative these days is like saying manure doesn’t smell. It’s laughable. Stay delusional!

I completely agree with Mike. Apple being the most innovative is a joke, I guess we know where more Apple money flows, either in direct advertising or someone owns a butt load of Apple Stock.

So. What proof of innovation justifies your article? I can spend a fortune on my company R&D and it won’t mean shit if I have nothing to show for it. You’re a fuckin moron. Stop flooding flipbook with your weaksauce bullshit

Pulled from the article:
“based on not how much these companies spend on research and development, but how those R&D funds are invested in talent, process, and tools.”
He’s not saying that they spent the most. Because they didn’t and they have a hell of a lot of proof of innovation to justify their spending and this article. The iPhones and iPads top all other geek bench scores not to mention they did it with their self designed SoC, their phones and macs are almost malware free, and they are the most valuable company on the stock market, and countless other reasons.
Looks like you’re the fuckin moron, stop flooding the Internet with your weaksauce lack of knowledge.

With two months left to the end of 2012, how can anyone pick the most of anything for the year? As it goes, Apple was ok in redesigning and updating its line of products physically this year. But where innovation really matters, they were certainly not the top player. The major activity Apple makes its money from is iOS. iOS 6 was definitely not the most innovative version of the iOS or any OS’s released this year, especially comparing to Android 4.1 Jellybean and Windows Phone 8. Perhaps with Ive in design helm, Apple will do better next year.

Article conclusion sounds about right. Apple innovates by designing a dual core CPU (A6X)that is as fast as any current quad core ARM CPU, has great power efficiency, even with an LTE chip on board. Aside from Samsung, who do design and produce their own silicon (but really not that innovative, as they have quad core ARM CPUs that are not really any faster than the A6X dual core), The remaining Android vendors just design phones with a checklist type approach (Exynos, Krait, or Tegra CPUs, Mali or Power VR GPUs, Qualcom or Infineon RF chips, displays from Samsung, LG, AU Optronics, or Sharp). Just wrap in a case, and done.

Ummmm news for some of out there. Innovation isn’t just in how well they redesign the casings of their products to make it look different. Think about it!
