Apple Releases iOS 6.0.2 Update to Fix Wi-Fi Bug [Update]

Apple has released iOS 6.0.2, an update that “fixes a bug that could impact Wi-Fi,” as first noted by The Loop.

iOS users have been plagued by a recent bug which causes data to be used over Wi-Fi. We’ve covered this issue extensively, which was determined to impact Apple’s Podcast app, but apparently was fixed with iOS 6.0.1. Some users have still suffered from data overages due to this, so this update could pretty much fix it for good.

You can get the update by plugging your iPhone or iPad into iTunes. Also, you can get the update by going to Settings > General > Software Update on your iOS device.

Let us know if it works for you!

Update: updating over the air seems to result in an error for many; looks like we’ll have to plug in with the cable. It has worked for some though (thanks @pulp45):

iOS 6.0.2

…more to come, refresh for updates

Finally! That was twelve weeks of pain (and silence from Apple) for hundreds of thousands (millions?) of iOS 6/6.01 users on iPhone 4S & iPhone 5. I myself changed out my iPhone 3 times, the 4th unit had somewhat “better” WiFi reception but still not as good as my 3GS and the 5 should be faster. Getting errors (three times now) via iTunes update, “The iPhone could not be updated, an unknown error occurred (3014)” so I can’t report if it works or not.

The update successfully installed OTA on my iPhone 5. WiFi seems the same for me so far, but I wasn’t noticing any WiFi problems before the update anyway.

Please clarify in the article and headline that the update is for iPhone 5 and iPad mini only.

According to the Apple Support Community thread (WiFi problems) it’s only for iPhone 5 & iPad mini. Surely WiFi issues that started with iOS 6 on the 4 & 4S will be addressed very soon too.

This is the news that I have been waiting for!!! My iPhone 5 had poor wifi since the beginning. It is even bad with my Airport Extreme. I’m going to update tonight but I’d like to see what performance improvements have been made for others.

This is great but the carriers must be like “aw, now how are we gonna over bill them legitimately?”

Update worked as over the air for me. No need to plug into iTunes. Will be a few days to see if it fixes anything.
