Samsung Launches iPad mini Competitor, the Galaxy Note 8.0 [PICS]

Gnote8 lede 1

Samsung has announced the launch of its Galaxy Note 8.0 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, which looks to take straight aim at Apple’s iPad mini.

This new tablet sports an 8-inch TFT display (running 1280 x 800), will run Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, a 1.6GHz Eynos 4 Quad processor, 2GB of RAM, 5MP back shooter (1.3MP front) and available in 16GB and 32GB models.

Engadget notes There will be a global version (not available in the USA) with HSPA+ 21 connectivity (850/900/1900/2100MHz), so you can look like a real champ with this tablet against the side of your face.

Check out the hands-on images comparing the iPad mini versus the Galaxy Note 8.0, as taken by Android Central (via iMore):

Isamsung galaxy note 8 14 0

Isamsung galaxy note 8 15 0

Samsung said the new Galaxy Note 8.0 will available in Q2 for purchase but did not unveil any pricing. The iPad mini is still 30 grams lighter and also thinner than the Galaxy Note 8.0.

Anyone excited for this? We know Android in Canada will be all over this. For a full hands on check out the coverage over at AnandTech.

Google Glass looks to be amazing. Hope it won’t be 1500$ once it becomes a real consumer product.

@ Drums360: Seriously. Added functionality makes you laugh? I’d kill to be able to make phone calls from my iPad mini at home. The speakers convey better sound and people hear me super well over the mic, and that’s over Fongo, so it would be even better over cell networks. Or like Gary said, you leave it in your bag, use headphones etc.

Why do they continue to push a stylus? Is their touch screen so inferior that they need one?

Have you tried writing on the tablet with your finger?

Have you tried any drawing with a tablet?

Capacitive touch screen is great for finger gesture, swiping etc.

But it is absolutely terrible as a hand writing tool, with finger or those ineffective “stylus for iphone/ipad”.

Galaxy Note stylus is a godsend for those who appreciate the use of a stylus.

Not really, bigger screen watching videos/ surfing net, texting screen real estate always helps…… Apple thinks so the i5 is a little bigger lol. The micro usb ehhh its becoming a standard but its not a huge thing, micro sd is tho you can have whatever you want WHEN you want it and being on your own card security is never a issue, if your device only has 16/32 and thats not enough just go buy a card and your in business 😉

Or don’t be cheap 🙂 I needed more space so I got the 64GB. Plus I have iCloud and Dropbox so there’s plenty of space. I’ve had phones in the past with micro SD cards and I found it to be annoying. Granted capacities are larger now but it bothered me so I wouldn’t use it if I had the option.
Yeah the 5 screen got bigger but the overall size remains manageable when it comes to one hand use and fitting in my pocket. My son has no problem watching his Bubble Guppies on my phone with the four inch screen. Nevertheless, I was still happy with the three and a half.

Has nothing to do with cheap….. So a little lost on that comment its more choice, why limit yourself when you can expand as much as you see fit? i have no problems with the size of the note line, easy as hell to text one handed i use swype even over swift key( im using a og tab 10.1 hence all the typos) hey dont let ppl tell you what to use you like the 3.5 hey stick with it

Sigh… Here comes the specs guy.
True that in terms of specs, Samsung is better. But what you obviously don’t understand is how the OSes operate and use its resources. Android is notorious for eating up memory and must free them up ever so often. That’s why all them devices need so much RAM to run smoothly. That’s why only the higher-end devices run smooth, and the lower-end devices runs like shit. iOS on the other hand is designed to use less RAM and resources, therefore it doesn’t require all that. Read the benchmark for iPhone 5 vs S3. Specs doesn’t define what’s better.
Now go back to your fAndroid forums.

Hahahahahaha ohhh i see your tryung to hold onto the fact that when the i5 came out it beat the gs3 by forty points but when the gs3 got the uodate to jelly bean it destroyed. The i5 by over 150 points on geek bench this is also the dual core us model using the crap snapdragin processor. Yex you are rite in the past thise huge specs were needed and at that time ios was a much smoother exp….. But with jelly bean those specs are just gravy

I guess I’m failing to see a actual comparsion here….. Quad core 1.6 exynos < a5 2gb ram< 512mb. Ppi goes to the note as well, video overlay, multi screen apps….. Looks fairly one sided to me, please no embelishment is needed just the obvious facts
