iOS US Web Traffic Reaches 69%, Gap Widens Over Android

After analyzing mobile traffic for 10 of the top 100 mobile websites, Investing Analytics found that iOS has recorded a significant growth over the past few months at the expense of Android, Piper Jaffray informed AppleInsider.

Google’s operating system has the majority of the US smartphone market, but that picture looks different when it comes to mobile Web traffic. In fact, the 2.7% rise of iOS market share — as pointed out by comScore’s most recent market analysis — was just enough to push Android’s mobile Web traffic down to 26.5% from 29.7% recorded in February.

While Android is shrinking (alongside others) iOS is poised to grow:

“For the second straight month in our tracking of the data, iOS gained on Android as a source of mobile traffic,” said analyst Gene Munster. “We believe the traffic data continues to demonstrate that iOS is not only the leading platform in the US, its users are generally more engaged with their mobile devices.”

To put that in numbers, Apple’s iDevices represented 69% of the total mobile Web traffic monitored by Investing Analytics. Broken down by device, the iPad reached 41.7% of the traffic, up 3% from February, while the iPhone slid to 58.3% in April, down from 61.1% recorded in February.

If Android phones/tablets were so wonderful you would think people would use them for something more than a paperweight …
