It has started. With Apple’s official iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c launch less than 24 hours away, the lines have already started in Toronto at the Apple Store inside Eaton Centre (via MobileSyrup). The image below shows four people in line which have a full day’s wait as doors open at 8AM local time.
Yesterday we confirmed Apple Stores in Canada will sell unlocked iPhone 5s units at launch, unlike last year’s iPhone 5 launch. With the iPhone 5s rumoured to be in short supply, we expect line ups to be massive as resellers and first adopters will be right in the action trying to get a gold model.

I just stopped by Yorkdale on my way home from work…no lineup yet, and apparently the line will be at the closest entrance (by the Microsoft store BWAHAHAHAH) until doors open around 5.

If you are lining up at an Apple store, someone should ask if they have the gold iPhone for sale. At least 1 Apple store in Australia telling people in line they have no gold ones for launch day.

yeah, chinook is easily accessible via Ctrain, also based on iphone 5 experience, i had a friend in market mall, we showed each other video’s of the lineup. i was at chinook, there were more people.
How many of the people in queues will buy the new iPhone(s) for actual use? My guess is they just buy it for their collection or to re-sell in eBay.
Anyone from Red Deer, Alberta planning to line up anywhere in town?
I’ve been running around all morning gathering intel from the various stores that will be participating in the launch tomorrow. I don’t really feel like sharing specifics as it’s not looking really good and I want to use my findings to have the best chance I can get to find the one I want. I will say however, if you’re looking for a 5s in 16 GB you have a good chance, sounds like mostly grey and some white, no gold (who wants that tacky thing anyway?), 32 GB is gonna be tough, especially if you’re on Rogers, 64 GB’s are not going to be found tomorrow around here from anybody. 5c’s should be pretty easy to get.
Might go to a larger city, not sure yet though. I can’t let this be the first iPhone officially released in Canada (3G forward) that I don’t get on launch day!

I’ve played the game before. Never lined up at the crack of dawn but I’ve made the store visits before until I got one. I’m not 100% sure that I want the 5S but will place an order for an unlocked one tomorrow morning (when I wake up, not at 3:00AM) directly from Apple. I don’t know how long it will take to get it but it will give me some more time to make up my mind. Unlike other years, my existing phone is working fine and will probably continue to do so. I still don’t understand people lining up for hours. If I took my hourly wage x the number of hours I’d have to sit around waiting, I could likely buy one on kijiji tomorrow morning and only feel a little ripped off vs massively ripped off.

Guys, I’ve read somewhere that they did not sell unlocked iPhones 5 at the Apple store, and that you had to buy them online. Does anyone know if they will sell factory unlocked phones at stores tomorrow?

My manager sent me a pic as she was leaving Sherway. Around 9:30pm there was already a line and a few tents outside. Guest services said they’re not opening doors to the mall until 8AM….which is pretty messed

I’m still contemplating haha. I was planning to head to Rogers in the mall instead of the Apple store itself. There are smaller Rogers locations spread throughout Etobicoke that are getting some, and will hopefully have less of a line up. Though the styles, sizes, and quantities remain a mystery. I pass by one on the way to Sherway so if I see there isn’t much of a line around 5AM there, then I might just wait there. If not I’ll be off to Sherway to test my luck. I won’t cry if I don’t get the one I want, if any haha.

Apple Eaton Centre staff announced that there are no Gold 16GB available. Other sizes see very limited as well. Line is about 80 people now at 1:50am. Eaton Centre is allowing people to wait inside the mall this year, no need to go outside and come back in later on.
