Google Celebrates The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake With a Search Easter Egg

Young green-clad hero raises a glowing two-handed sword overhead in a stone temple, a bright fairy nearby.

Google is celebrating Nintendo’s upcoming release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake with a clever Easter egg that takes its search engine back to 1998.

The hidden feature arrives ahead of the game’s November 5 launch on Nintendo Switch 2, offering fans a dose of nostalgia before returning to Hyrule. To activate it, search Google for “Zelda.” The now iconic Master Sword will appear in the bottom-right corner of the results page. Clicking the sword triggers an animation that places it into its pedestal, accompanied by a sound effect and a visual transition that transforms Google’s modern interface.

Instead of the contemporary 2026 UI, users are greeted with a recreation of Google’s original 1998 design, complete with a minimalist layout, traditional blue hyperlinks and the classic “I’m Feeling Lucky” button. It’s a fitting tribute considering the original Ocarina of Time launched on Nintendo 64 in November 1998, the same year Google was founded.

Mobile Google search results page for 'zelda' with search bar, action buttons, and a list of results including The Legend of Zelda.

The Easter egg coincides with renewed excitement around Nintendo’s upcoming remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which revisits one of the company’s most influential games.

As previously detailed during Nintendo’s Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct, the remake features rebuilt visuals, expanded dialogue, updated swimming mechanics and a dedicated jump button. The Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive also introduces voice dialogue in select cutscenes while retaining the original adventure’s foundation. Canadian players can pre-order the physical edition for $99.99, with special packaging featuring textured foil artwork.

Nintendo has also released a Zelda-themed Nintendo Switch 2 console and matching accessories to celebrate the franchise’s 40th anniversary. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake launches November 5 exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2.

For fans who prefer the original experience, Ocarina of Time remains playable through Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack.
