Charge Your iPhone 5/5S With Your Hand Anytime, Anywhere [Kickstarter]

A new Kickstarter project called Mipwr Dynamo, is a hybrid charger and backup battery case for your iPhone 5/5S, that features a push lever for producing 30 seconds of talk time for every 1 minute of pumping. In addition to a concealed push lever, Mipwr Dynamo also contains a built-in 400 mA battery for charging directly via a micro USB cable through any power outlet.

The developers of Mipwr Dynamo say that they have successfully produced a working prototype that functions just as they had envisioned. They travelled through China, selecting the materials for molded parts, locating a suitable lithium ion battery, and designing the electronics circuit board.

Specifications:

  • Electronics: Lithium Ion 400mA battery – enough power for 2 hours of talk time
  • Dimensions: 5.36″ h x 0.787″ t x 2.42″ w, wt = 3.4 ounces
  • Dynamo: electromagnetic induction principle to charge internal case battery. One minute of actuation (60 pushes) = 30 seconds of talk/text.
  • Included: micro USB cable for charging and instructions

The case developers also note that they do not anticipate any major design changes, some unforeseen changes may however occur in the final product. If you want to back this project, you can head over to their Kickstarter page and make a pledge for $25 or more.

Boy, I can’t think of too many edge cases where this would be useful. You get stranded in the NWT in winter without power for a month, maybe? I think a battery case does what this does much more effectively. Add a solar cell that you can trickle charge under extreme circumstances.

I like this. Solar power? Sure. But night? Cloudy? Many people have juice packs that need to be plugged in to charge. AA packs – if you run out of AA’s, you’re also toast. This would be an emergency (as they say) backup power source – 100% renewable and really only reliant on your being conscious. Battery life is a question though; and can it be replaced if it loses its max charge? I think it’s a great idea, personally.

It says 30 seconds of talk, not usage, time for 1 min pumping…. the phone holds for 600 minutes of talk time on a full charge. That means you need to pump this thing for 20 hours straight (while NOT using it) to get a full charge. This is just not efficient enough to make any sense at all. You cannot use the phone at all while you are pumping or you will simply slow the battery draining rather than charging it. if it was a 2 to 1 ratio rather than a 1 to 2 ratio than maybe they would have something. The idea is an excellent one, but in its current incarnation a flawed one.

Really a device we designed for emergency power – enough to send a text or place a phone call to tell or text someone your location or that your stuck somewhere. Not to charge the phone entirely. I would not suspect someone would sit there for hours to charge the phone entirely (although you could) to place a one minute call to mom or dad, or to send a text.

Exactly. And by battery life, I meant how long the battery will
continue to provide its full potential. How long will it last before a
battery replacement might be necessary?

if your referring to the 400mA battery its hard to say. But usually these lithium batteries can be recharged 1000 times. so if there is 365 days in a year, it should last you 3 years. Don’t forget the case battery can be charged via micro usb.

I lime capacitors more then battery so How meny times can you charge a capacitor compared to a lithium ion battery is my question to you.

I’d NEVER buy anything from Kickstarter. It’s been filled with buttloads of overrated, useless crap that no one really needs. People appreciate creative ideas whether or not they were put into production.
