We all know that sinking feeling when the power cuts out on a hot summer afternoon. The hum of the kitchen goes quiet, the lights flicker and die, and right away you’re wondering how much of your grocery run is going to end up in the trash by morning.

It’s a situation more and more Canadians are dealing with. As the weather gets less predictable, backup power at home has gone from a nice-to-have to something people actually need. That’s where the new BLUETTI FridgePower comes in.

It’s already pulling in serious attention, with over $2.2 million US raised on Kickstarter, and it’s being billed as the world’s first ultra-slim smart backup power system built specifically for fridges.

Made for the kitchen, not the campsite

Man in a cap taps a touchscreen on a stainless steel side-by-side refrigerator in a cozy kitchen with plants and wooden ceiling beams.

Most power stations are bulky, eat up floor space, and turn into a tripping hazard. The FridgePower goes the other way with a super-slim 75mm profile, so it slides in behind or beside your fridge and basically disappears into the dead space in your kitchen.

What matters more is what’s inside. It packs a 2,016Wh capacity and 1,800W output, which is enough to handle the big power spikes a fridge compressor needs to kick on. In testing, it kept a standard fridge running for up to 21 hours on a single charge. Need more? You can daisy-chain BlueCell 200 expansion batteries to push it all the way up to 8,064Wh.

Smart enough to prep for a storm

The FridgePower works as a true uninterruptible power supply, or UPS. It sits between your wall outlet and your fridge, and when the grid goes down it switches to battery in under 10 milliseconds, fast enough that your compressor won’t even hiccup.

It’s also genuinely smart. Through the BLUETTI app, it keeps an eye on the local weather forecast. If it sees a bad storm rolling in, it can automatically kick off a Turbo Charge to top itself up to 100 percent before the power even goes out.
