Ever wonder how big the iPhone business actually is? Well, according to Bloomberg BusinessWeek’s latest report, Apple’s iPhone business alone outsells the businesses of Procter & Gamble, Boeing, McDonald’s, Microsoft, Google and other companies on the S&P 500. The report also notes that Apple’s iPhone unit would be the 9th largest company by revenue in the Dow Jones Industrial Average if it were an individual component of the index.

The iPhone’s annual revenues not only dwarf those of American corporate icons like Nike, Johnson & Johnson and Coca-Cola, but is nearly three times as much as Apple itself recorded for the entirety of the company’s 2008 fiscal year, the first full year of the iPhone’s availability. Apple’s last 12-moth’s iPhone sales i.e $88.4 billion, are even greater than the rest of Apple’s products combined i.e $81 billion.

“If this single product were its own company in the Standard & Poor’s 500-stock index, IPhone Inc. would outsell 474 of those companies—ranking between Wells Fargo (WFC) ($90.5 billion) and Marathon Petroleum (MPC) ($84.9 billion). The iPhone’s $88.4 billion in annualized revenue tops 21 of the 30 component companies in the Dow Jones industrial average—it would be the ninth-biggest stock in the Dow 30.”

Total for 2012, and this is the whole company (seven subsidiaries), 268.8 billion for Samsung. I have to find out what it is just for their phone. Thats revenue like above not profits (26 billion, about 10%) funny thing is, Apple profit was 41.7 billion on the 157 billion revenue thats almost a third. So while Apple may have fewer products, I think thats saving it in the end, because other products for Samsung are not selling well.
