In a surprising move, Apple refreshed its iMac line earlier this week. The new models feature Intel’s Haswell processor, and the entry level 21.5 inch iMac comes with a 2.7GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor, Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz, 8GB of memory, 1TB of hard drive, and Intel Iris Pro graphics. All this for CDN$1,349, $50 more than in the US.
If you want more performance, you can choose the 2.9GHz model, which features a quad-core Intel Core i5 processor, or the high-end version that comes with a 3.1GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz, which adds $200 and $400, respectively, to the bill.
The guys from TLD have had the chance to grab the 21.5-inch 2.7GHz model, which, as you already know, haven’t changed in terms of design: the changes are inside, and speed is one factor that may make you want to grab one of the latest models.
So how does this look in numbers? According the Geekbench 3 test, the iMac model TLD test resulted in a single score of 3143 and in multi-core of 10193. By comparison, the last year’s model had a Geekbench 2 multi-core score of 10126.
