Apple Updates App Store Guidelines With Enforced Rules Against Low-Effort Apps
Within the App Store Guidelines support page, Apple urges developers not to "submit apps that are indistinguishable from what's already widely available."
Google Search for iOS to Get Google Now Notifications Across Devices, Redesign
Google announced yesterday its Google Search iPhone app will soon receive an update where it will be redesigned and also feature Google Now notifications, which will work across devices:
Having a “conversation” with Google should also be more natural. Ideally, you wouldn’t need to pull out your phone or tap buttons to use Google. We’re not quite there yet, but you can already do a lot with just your voice. In the next couple of weeks, you’ll be able to download a new version of the Google Search app on iPhone and iPad. With this update, you can get notifications across your devices. So if you tell your Nexus 7, “OK Google. Remind me to buy olive oil at Safeway,” when you walk into the store with your iPhone, you’ll get a reminder. We’ll also show you Google Now notifications so you’re not late to your cooking class.
Google Now was integrated into the Google Search app back in April and has become a powerful (and creepy) tool to help you with your everyday searches based on your location.

Apple Reveals App Store Search Results to Include More Ads in 2026

Did they fix the persistent location services issue that it would automatically turn ON by default when you open the app (and have not closed it) therby killing your battery? Even changing the settings didnt work. It would still come back when you opened the app again. That’s why i am still using an old version of Google Search.
It was proven to not actually affect battery life that much… It wasn’t using the GPS just cell tower location data, thereby using less power. People get their panties in a twist so easily at the sight of that little arrow in the status bar…
iPhone battery life sucks, with or without Google Search. I personally don’t use it anymore but did when the location complaining was happening and it never made a noticeable difference to the already dismal battery life on my iPhone 5. Which by the way, isn’t much better with the 5s. Sure it lasts all day if you hardly use it, but if you’re having a busy day with a healthy amount of emails and texts, you’re gonna have to charge that sucker at some point or have an expensive paperweight in your pocket for a good part of the day. I wish Apple would focus on that rather than a pretty finicky fingerprint scanner… But I digress.
Did the fix the constant on of location services? That’s been going on for a while. Even if you change your settings it comes back alive after you close the app and access it another time.That’s why I am using an old version of Google search.
Who cares if the arrow was up in the status bar? It really didn’t affect battery life at all… I don’t understand all the complaining about an indicator. It’s not like it’s a check engine light!
how does it not affect battery life?
It’s using cell tower location, not the GPS chip. Way lower power. Do some research. It was tested and proved to have minimal impact on battery life.
