Apple’s AirPort Utility App is Being Removed From the App Store

Apple’s release notes for iOS 27 beta 2 confirm that the AirPort Utility app will be removed from the App Store later this year. The app is no longer fully supported on iOS 27, so operations are not guaranteed in the future.

As first reported by MacRumorsApple’s iOS 27 beta 2 notes state outright that “AirPort Utility will no longer be available for new downloads from the App Store.” However, those who have previously downloaded the app can continue to reinstall it if they wish. Apple warns that “functionality is not guaranteed” when using AirPort Utility on iOS 27 or later.

Based on this, it doesn’t appear that AirPort Utility will be removed from new macOS installs. Similar to those running iOS 27 beta, those who have it installed can continue using it after updating to macOS Golden Gate. Though operations are similarly not guaranteed if running on new versions of the software.

Apple’s AirPort Utility app is an under-the-radar piece of software these days. The app allows users to leverage AirPort base stations such as the AirPort Extreme, AirPort Express, and AirPort Time Capsule. Recently, it was reported that Apple is removing Apple Filing Protocol (AFP) support in macOS 27 Golden Gate, ending support for Time Machine backups on all vintage Time Capsules.

With Apple sunsetting Time Machine backups on Time Capsule devices and removing the AirPort Utility app from the App Store, it’s clear that Apple is shifting its resources away from AirPort devices entirely. Apple first launched its AirPort Extreme in 2003. AirPort Utility was then released in 2007. In 2026, the software is fairly archaic, with users having moved on to other means of managing home Wi-Fi settings and signals.
