Rdio for iOS Update Gets Free Music Stations for Canada, USA, Australia
Rdio has announced an upcoming iOS update today will make stations free for users, a move which looks to compete with Apple’s iTunes Radio service in the USA. The free stations will be available in Canada, the US and Australia:
We heard our listeners loud and clear, so now we’re making stations — one of our most popular features — free for everyone on mobile iOS and Android. Whether you’re a paid subscriber or not, you’ll have access to awesome music whenever you use the Rdio app.
We’re inviting everyone to listen to all of Rdio’s stations, drawing from over 20 million songs, through our mobile apps for iOS and Android without ever pulling out the plastic. Even if your subscription or trial has ended, you’ll be able to choose from 10 different station types — including stations based on artist, song, and over 400 genres plus You FM, a personalized station based on your listening habits — so you can keep the music playing for as long as you want at no cost to you.
The update will allow you to share your favourite stations plus create playlist and album stations. You do not need to be a subscriber to listen to the free stations.

This would be even better news if there was an app for the Apple TV to utilize in Canada (at least until iTunes Radio is up and running).
