Vancouver-based Roam Mobility has announced some big changes to entice even more Canadians with unlocked iPhones and smartphones to use their US roaming service when they head down south this holiday season.

All Talk+Text+Data plans still include unlimited talk, text and free long-distance calls to Canada.
A new pricing structure means Data Only plans are as low as a penny per megabyte, depending on the amount purchased, making these plans much more affordable than ever before for data-hungry travellers with smartphones and tablets.
Emir Aboulhosn, founder and SVP Business Development of Roam Mobility said in a statement “Our new pricing and data allowance is truly the best deal for any Canadian travelling to the USA.” He went on to add “For $3.95 per day you get unlimited talk, text and 300 MB. That’s 50 percent lower and six times more data than roaming packages from other Canadian carriers.”
Roam Mobility tells us with three times more data, Canadian travellers can get 9GB of data on a 30 day Talk+Text+Data plan for just $89.95, which includes unlimited talk, text and free long distance to Canada. I don’t even think I’ve ever used 9GB of mobile data in Canada, let alone travelling in the USA.
Aboulhosn explains “the average person uses roughly 1 to 1.5 GB per month, or approximately 35 to 50 MB per day,” so these increased allotments will definitely help create a comfortable buffer.
How to use Roam Mobility on your next travels to the USA? Just purchase a SIM card for your unlocked iPhone or other smartphone at any big box retailer, convenience store such as 7-11, airports, duty-free stores or travel stores.
Standard and micro SIM cards are available for $19.95 with free shipping included. Nano SIM cards are available for the iPhone 5/5c/5s as well.
The beauty of Roam Mobility is the convenience factor of setting up your plan while you are still in Canada so it seamlessly activates when you arrive in the USA (you choose the dates).

I’m so sick of hearing about Canadians complaining about phone charges when in the US when there are options like roam out there. Personally i use tmobile mifi and at&t
Go phone but here is an option from Canada that is a good deal.
Not everyone has unlocked phones, and the agreements made by the major carriers are extensive, the money they charge is ridiculous, we shouldn’t have to bother with Roam, but glad the option is there.
The big thing is there are options other than the big 3. Obviously the more you go to the US will determine ones motivation to unlock phones or look at other options. Rogers doesn’t make a dime off of me once i cross the boarder.
Other than most people having locked phones, there’s still the inconvenience of not being reachable (phone or text) by your normal number, and iMessage may need some massaging.
I just looked at call-forwarding, and at least with Telus if it’s forwarded outside your home area long distance charges apply. You *might* get away with just not answering and calling them back right away (assuming Caller ID is forwarded to Roam) since you have anywhere-in-North America minutes. Not sure though; long distance is counted even if no one picks up…
I just leave my US number on voice mail. If they don’t want to call my US phone.they can email or text me. If you want people to call your cdn cell # there isn’t many options to keep your costs down.
I just came back from a 4 days travel to Washingnton DC. I tried Roam Mobility and I was more than happy I did. I paid less than 20$ and I had data all the time and calls back to canada. It’s not LTE, I was always on 3G but it was enough to be online with whatapp, do my searches on google for places to visit and more. Last year, I did a 1 week travel to USA and I paid 40$ to Fido for a very limited 50MB of EDGE data…less than 10MB/day… it was really painful.
Going there next week, parents live between baltimore and dc, thanks for the info, I spend 38 bucks for little over ten days, this should be great if it works as well as you say.
Before getting it, check out on their site if Baltimore is covered by 3G network. All big cities are covered, but check it just in case.

tmobile, LTE, $3 a day… that is if you have a 5S or C (or an aws enabled 5)

keep in mind a lot of tmobile’s 1900 band was refarmed to be compatible with older iphones too
I used tMobile when i was in the southwest for a couple of weeks, it worked but it was really slow, mostly edge. but I could tether lol
i know at least they dont charge for tethering 😀

Roam M. allows you tether… In DC, I used my iPad tethering through my iPhone on Roam M.

I have an unlocked non-AWS iPhone 5 which i bought a year ago and I have a T-Mobile Sim card which I use in the Bellingham area i get 3g speeds and in areas further south like alderwood i even get LTE
yeah it really depends on the area
manhattan is now fully LTE on non AWS phones, its pretty sick
Wow! Even better now. Have used them for three cross border trips and no complaints.
The only problem with Roam is when you are not in a major city. Even some stretches of Interstate have no coverage. It is great for big cities – even with an older iPhone 5 without AWS.
I’m in Reno right now on roam mobility. 3G service on my non aws iPhone 5. Works great!! The only thing I notice is battery drain.
Too bad I never took advantage of that program when they were giving thier sim for free when you send in an old one. For sure I would make use of the data only plans now.
Although the slashed prices are nice, they also cut how long they last. 500 MB or 1GB for a whole month was perfect for me, now I’ll have to think about how much usage I’ll be needing and whether the 7 days is the better value or not.
That is true. We can’t win them all but this is a great start.
