Rumoured Apple TV Hardware Revamp with New Controls Delayed

Back in September, TechCrunch’s MG Siegler sent out a tweet the Apple TV would soon see a new hardware refresh in October, setting off a media firestorm and building up expectations:

Now, Siegler has posted he is “pouring a small amount of water” on this rumour, as he’s hearing we won’t be seeing an overhauled Apple TV debut on Tuesday:

Well, now I feel the need to pour a little — just a little, mind you — cold water on the rumor fire. While I still haven’t heard anything concrete, the most recent whispers I have heard is that the Apple TV project has been delayed a bit.

That doesn’t mean we won’t see an Apple TV update at the event — we could see an updated unit with a spec bump or something. But the thing to be more excited about, the device with some sort of newfangled control system, doesn’t seem like it’s ready just yet.

The Apple TV hasn’t been updated for 19 months and many are hoping Apple will release a hardware refresh or update to its “hobby” at its upcoming October 22 special event, but since the latter is supposed to be jam packed with iPad, iPad mini, OS X Mavericks, Mac Pro announcements and more, it seems doubtful we would see an overhauled Apple TV debut, like mentioned by Siegler.

Possible signs of a refreshed Apple TV debuting October 23 surfaced last week, after an Amazon product listing in Germany noted new stock would be available that date, which just happens to be the day after Apple’s upcoming special event.

Are you patiently waiting for an Apple TV refresh?
