Square Canada Now Accepts American Express and JCB Payments

Square has announced small and mobile business owners who use the mobile payment service in Canada can now accept American Express and JCB credit card payments, alongside existing VISA and MasterCard for the same rate of 2.75% per transaction.

The company says businesses in Canada are processing over $100 million in credit card payments, in just over a year of being in operation.

Jennifer Hawkins, Vice President and General Manager of Merchant Services at American Express Canada, said in a statement “Small businesses are a huge part of not only the Canadian economy, but the Canadian identity. We’ve been working hard to identify more ways to support small merchants, and American Express acceptance with Square is a great next step.”

Square offers business a free card reader which plugs into their mobile device such as the iPhone or iPad, and along with the Square Register iOS apps, businesses can accept mobile credit card payments from anywhere.

Square Reader is also available for free at Square.ca or from over 800 retail outlets in Canada such as Best Buy, Future Shop, London Drugs and Staples for $9.95; first time customers will get a $10 rebate on the device essentially making it free.

Anyone out there using Square to accept payments for their business? How do you like it?
