Users trying to use the messaging app currently are unable to, as all they see is the “connecting” message (which never connects). The last time there was a major outage was last December.
Just two days ago Facebook acquired the popular messaging app for $16 billion. Is WhatsApp working for you right now?
Update: Spoke too soon, looks like the service is now back for most users.

Update Feb. 23: WhatsApp’s founder Jan Koum tells Reuters the reason for the outage was due to a network router:
“We are sorry about the downtime,” wrote Koum. “It has been our longest and biggest outage in years. It was caused by a network router fault which cascaded into our servers.”
