Apple Introduces New ‘Indie Game Showcase’ Section on iOS App Store

MacStories reports Apple has added a new section on the App Store, called “Indie Game Showcase,” which is dedicated to highlighting games made by independent studios. The page promises to highlight notable indie game titles regularly.

Often made up of just a few dedicated members, independent studios prove that what really matters is the size of your dream. In each Indie Game Showcase, we celebrate a popular game and its creative team, highlighting the developer’s titles along with their favourite games from other studios.

Indie game developers have seen a great amount of success since the launch of the App store in 2008. Various notable titles include Flappy Bird, Fruit Ninja, and Doodle Jump which all went on to become international hits.

For its first showcase, Apple highlighted action-thriller game Device 6 by Simogo, which was chosen as a runner-up for Apple’s 2013 Game of the Year. The featured page also showcases more games from the featured indie developer as well as their favourite games from other developers.

It is not clear as to how often Apple will rotate the indie game featured in the showcase. However, it is assumed that the showcases will change every week just like the other iTunes App Store sections.
