Flurry: iOS and Android Users Spend a Third of Their App Time Playing Games
iOS and Android users in the US spend an average of 2 hours and 42 minutes each day using their mobile device – up from 2 hours and 38 minutes recorded a year ago. Of that, apps account for the vast majority of time spent: 86%, or 2 hours and 19 minutes, each day, while mobile Web continue to drop, now standing at 14%, or 22 minutes a day, according to Flurry’s recently published yearly report on the mobile industry.

The report looks back over the past 3-month period between January 2014 and March 2014 and concludes that we can forget about mobile Web: it’s the apps that dominate the mobile landscape, as the “browser has become a single application swimming in a sea of apps.”

Games retain first spot, accounting for 32% of the total time spent on mobile, while social messaging apps have grown to 28% from 24%. Time spent on entertainment and utility apps remained unchanged at 8% each, while productivity apps doubled their share from 2% to 4% of the overall time spent.
It is worth noting that Facebook still has the biggest share of all time spent on mobile (17%), at least in the US, and it maintained its position despite the segment’s growth.
